‘Young & Restless’ Lily Brooks O’Briant Talks Heather’s Death
A recent death hasn’t just impacted the characters on The Young and the Restless. Even the actors who bring these characters to life can feel the impact as they process their characters. One actor on the show, Lily Brooks O’Briant, has talked about what it’s like getting into her character’s head as she just lost a loved one.
Lucy Recently Lost Her Mother-Figure On The Show
The character of Heather Stevens was previously killed off during an encounter with Sharon Newman. The latter character had found herself in a trance only to find Heather lying next to broken glass.
Actress Lily Brooks O’Briant joined the cast of The Young and the Restless as the character of Lucy Romalotti. On the series, Heather acted as a mother-figure to Lucy, meaning her death would certainly leave an impact on the character.
O’Briant recently talked with Soap Opera Digest, where she talked about the character’s death. When asked about her reaction on learning Heather was set to die, she replied, “I was shocked, for sure, when I found out. But, I mean, this is Young and Restless, so anything can happen, ever — you always have to expect the unexpected on Y&R!” She added that she liked “diving into Lucy’s emotions and kind of figuring out where her head is at.”
Heather’s death may likely have a lasting impact on Lucy. When asked about her current state, O’Briant shared, “Currently, I think she’s in denial. I think it’s really, really hard for her to accept the fact that her mom isn’t there anymore.” She added, upon learning the news, Lucy “came up with every single reason that she can’t be gone.”
Heather’s Actress Also Talked About Her Character’s Fate
While being interviewed, it was noted that, despite the fantastic elements, like a hallucinated Cameron, the story still tackled the real issues of loss and grief. O’Briant acknowledged, “So many people can relate to that.” She added, she “found it very important to try to represent that the best way that I could.”
Before joining the cast of the soap, O’Briant was known playing Ella in the Apple TV+ series Life By Ella. She is also known for playing Matilda in the touring company of the eponymous musical. She also also worked in the music industry, releasing the single, “Slow,” in 2022.

For her part, as previously reported, Heather’s actress, Vail Bloom, talked about her character’s death on the show. As she explained, she wasn’t against the idea of a “resurrection.” In other words, she would be willing to return to the show if it could come up with a way to bring back the character. As she put it, “I would be open to it if the fans really wanted to see more of Heather again.”
