‘Today’ Hoda Kotb Regrets Ending Complicated Relationship
Hoda Kotb is amid several huge life transitions. The 60-year-old Today host announced in September that she would be leaving the show. Hoda, who broke up with her ex-fiancé in 2022, is also working on moving on from her broken engagement. Recently Hoda revealed that she is having some regrets about how things have been going down.
Hoda’s Relationship
Hoda Kotb and ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman were in a relationship for 9 years before they split in 2022. The couple share daughters Haley Joy and Hope Catherine. In an episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen Hoda revealed how she and Joel met. Hoda confessed to asking a friend to check on Joel’s relationship status. The friend emailed Joel who responded by emailing Hoda and asking her out on a date.
The pair dated for several years. Hoda and Joel announced their engagement on the November 25, 2019 episode of Today. Just a few short years later Hoda would announce that the couple had called the relationship off.
Hoda Kotb Talks Broken Engagement
Things did not work out between Hoda Kotb and Joel Schiffman. Hoda stated that they were “growing at different paces”. Someone close to the family recently spoke out and said “Hoda regrets the Joel breakup, but it was more complicated than her having a busy career.” It sounds like many factors were at play in the ending of the relationship.

The insider went on to share that the issues ran deeper than Hoda being a busy working Mom. They said “Raising young children wasn’t his priority, and she understood that. She doesn’t fault him for his decision. It was sad at first. She still misses him, but she’s moved on from that.” Good for her for moving on. Hoda deserves a partner that will support her in the home and in her professional journey.
Hoda announced the end of her engagement on the January 31, 2022 episode of Today.
Koda Is Moving On
Hoda Kotb explained to fans that she and Joel Schiffman decided that they would focus on co-parenting their two children. She said “Joel is one of the best people I know, and he really is a great human being, and I feel like I’m a pretty great human being, but sometimes two great human beings together isn’t quite enough to make it work.” Hoda continued that she and Joel struggled to remain in sync. She added “I think a lot of people are probably in these situations. One person’s growing … or one person wants it this way, and one person wants it that way.”
Someone close to Hoda shared that she has been having some tough feelings about the situation. The insider said “she’s put a very brave face on her situation, but ultimately everyone knows she’s lonely and highly embarrassed to have suffered so much disappointment and rejection. She’s always going to put her daughters first, but finding a man to share her happiness is a huge priority as well — as she’s freely admitted, time after time, on the show and outside of work.”
In early 2025, Hoda will participate in her last broadcast of Today. The insider close to Hoda expressed hopefulness for Hodas’s big transition. “This new schedule will enable Hoda to get out there and breathe, relax, and then hopefully connect with that special someone at long last. It’s her firm belief that if she’d stayed on Today this wouldn’t have been possible.” It’s exciting to see Hoda move onto things that make her happier.
