Two of the families associated with the Duck Dynasty cast got caught in the path of destruction caused by Hurricane Helene. Al and Lisa Robertson, and Zach Dasher and his family, were all caught in Black Mountain, North Carolina when the storm hit. They opened up about their experienced on the latest episode of their “Unashamed” podcast. Here is what they had to say.

Lisa & Al Robertson Get Trapped By Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene proved itself to be a force as it ripped through the Southeastern United States at the end of September. Some people close to the Duck Dynasty family found themselves trapped in the storm.

Al and Lisa Robertson were in the Black Mountain region of North Carolina when Helene hit. On their “Unashamed” podcast, he said that they “got caught flat-footed” by the hurricane, which dumped more than 40 trillion gallons of rain in the Southeast.

“It hit us at about 5:30 in the morning and I admit, we’ve rode out a couple storms here and down in the Gulf shores, but this one had some bite to it,” Al said.

He then talked about not being able to sleep because he heard trees coming down in the area. “Not close by, but these things are 200 feet tall. When they hit the ground, you hear it for a long way,” he said.

“First you’re just praying, ‘Spare us,’ then you’re thinking about the people down lower…I was worried about a mudslide. It was a scary night,” Al continued.

After the storm passed, they went out to check on their cousins nearby and their granddaughter. Thankfully, everyone was okay. However, there wasn’t any access to cell phone service or internet, and there was no electricity or water.

Lisa and Al Robertson were in the Black Mountain area for an event. So, they attempted to see if they’d still be able to make it. They tried every possible way out, but they encountered roadblocks from mudslides and fallen trees in every direction.

The Duck Dynasty family members recognized at this point that they were trapped. Al said that there was a certain amount of “helplessness” that he felt when he realized their situation.

More Duck Dynasty Family Impacted By The Storm

Zach Dasher, who is Phil Robertson‘s maternal nephew, joined the podcast via phone. He and his wife Jill live in one of the hardest-hit areas, which Zach described as a “war zone.”

Swannanoa, where the Dashers live, has been completely “swept away” by Hurricane Helene. “I’m talking about the land that the buildings were on is gone. Not just the land, but the buildings,” he said on the podcast.
