Greg Vaughan Shares Appreciation For ‘GH’ Co-Star Kelly Monaco

Greg Vaughan Mourns Days Of Our Lives Icon Drake Hogestyn
Greg Vaughan has played Eric Brady on Days of Our Lives since 2012. During that time, he shared many scenes with co-star Drake Hogestyn, who played John Black for nearly 40 years. While John Black isn’t Eric’s biological father, the characters are as close as family can be.
The soap opera community was shattered last weekend to learn that Drake Hogestyn had succumbed to pancreatic cancer. Greg Vaughan was among the soap stars to pay tribute to the late actor.
Greg Vaughan shared the last photo he took with Drake Hogestyn from the Days Of Our Lives set. He wrote, “Drake was more than just a family man; he always made time for anyone & everyone! He was a wonderful storyteller, and most importantly, a loving and caring person. As a father figure to me and many of my costars, we shared our love for sports, and he always wanted to hear about my son’s life & sports!”
The post continued, “On set, Drake was never short of being a scene stealer but an amazing way of making everyone in the room feel loved, supported, and valued. It’s still hard to believe that he passed away a day before his 71st birthday. Like John Black, only Drake could have orchestrated such a dramatic exit.”
Greg Vaughan ended the post, “His voice will always stay with me, leaving a lasting impact. Happy Birthday and I love you, Drake. Godspeed.”
Shares Appreciation For Former GH Co-Star Kelly Monaco
Before he joined Days of Our Lives,Greg Vaughan played Lucky Spencer on General Hospital from 2003 until 2009. During that time, he was paired with Kelly Monaco’s Sam McCall. News broke in August that the actress was let go after more than two decades.
A group of her fans began the #IStandWithKelly campaign to show their support. The group paid for a Cameo with Greg Vaughan and asked him to share stories of his time with Kelly Monaco on GH. He was more than happy to oblige.
“A near and dear friend to me and a former incredible co-star I had the pleasure of sharing some wonderful time with and making great memories at General Hospital,” Greg Vaughan said.
He told the story about the time Lucky and Sam went on a camping trip. “I think one of my most fun, most memorable – that I don’t think either of us stopped laughing – was our camping adventure,” he began. “With the spider, the gun, the just trying to figure out, which is complete polar opposite of who I am. Kelly always made it fun.”
