Michael Strahan Not Too Happy About ‘GMA’ Story
Michael Strahan recently filled in for Robin Roberts during an appearance on Good Morning America. This came out after he recently witnessed an unfortunate loss firsthand. Not only did this turn out to be one of the show’s headlines, Strahan was the one to announce it. Throughout the show, his co-anchors tried to be sympathetic.
Strahan Was The One To Preview Some Unfortunate News
Strahan is a former professional football player, having spent 15 years as a defensive end for the New York Giants. Since his retirement, however, he’s become a media personality. From 2012 to 2016, he co-hosted Live! with Kelly and Michael with Kelly Ripa. By 2016, he joined Good Morning America full-time.
On the Thursday before the Friday show, Strahan attended a New York Giants game to support his former team. However, after a close game, they lost to their rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. The score was 20-15.
While the outcome would already be unfortunate for Strahan, it would come up again when he went to work the next day. Good Morning America opened up with Strahan, appearing with George Stephanopoulos, and Rebecca Jarvis, giving previews of the episode’s upcoming stories.
This included the Thursday game, with Strahan being the one who got to present. As noted by Monsters & Critics, Strahan read, “15 seconds to go. A Hail Mary for the Giants, anything could happen, and…The Dallas Cowboys win.” During a clip of the game, the screen even read “Cowboys Beat Giants…Sorry Michael!” over “Hearbreaking Hail Mary.”
Strahan’s Co-Anchors Also Showed Their Sympathy On Set
Strahan wasn’t too happy about being the one to read this. As he put it, “I can’t believe they made me read this.” Once the intro wrapped up, he continued to react with his co-anchors. “Yeah, I wasn’t too enthusiastic about that read. Good morning, America,” Strahan added.
Stephanopoulos commended him, saying, “I’m very impressed that you were even able to pull it off.” That said, Strahan responded, “Yeah, you should’ve heard me after I said it, George…Wasn’t so nice.”
Later on the show, Jarvis introduced the story about the Dallas Cowboys’ win. She added, “I’m looking at you, Michael.” Strahan replied, “Yeah, I see you.”
Will Reeve later appeared on the episode, where he prefaced what he was about to say with, “It brings me no pleasure as a Giants fan and as a friend near Michael Strahan to announce this stat for George’s benefit.” He then revealed the Giants “third most losses in the NFL” over the past decade. This caused Strahan to chime in, “We’ve also won two Super Bowls. If you’re a teenager, you remember that.”
