Ben and Erin Napier

The internet parenting police are calling out Ben and Erin Napier for putting their children in danger. Recently, the HGTV Home Town stars shared an update about their kids’s crib. However, the photo Erin shared had people scrambling to the comments to tell her she was doing it all wrong. Keep reading to see why.

Internet Parent Police Sent Reeling After Erin Napier’s Latest Post

Ben and Erin Napier share two daughters, Helen and Mae Napier. In a recent post on Instagram, Erin shared that they were reaching another milestone with their children that had her teary-eyed.

The Instagram post showed a crib that Ben apparently handmade when their first child was born in 2017. In the caption, Erin wrote, “Minutes after learning we were expecting Helen, in 2017, @scotsman.co started drawing the plans for her crib. He built it from white oak with one tiny plug of heart pine in the top rail that came from inside the wall of our house so his daughter would have a piece of home that belonged to her. Mae slept in it for the last time last night so here, we can remember it.”

While the post was touched, many fans noticed that the crib was equipped with bumper cushions. Although these cushions were fairly popular in the 1990s and early 2000s, they are no longer recommended by doctors.

Padding inside the crib is considered hazardous and the Consumer Product Safety Commission officially banned bumpers for cribs in 2023. This has made it impossible to find them online or anywhere else for sale. The main reason for the ban was due to the potential for suffocation and strangulation.

“Erin sadly in the UK they advise no cot bumpers. Safe sleeping!!” one person pointed out in the comments. “Get rid of the bumper pads, huge sids risk,” another person chimed in.

Ben & Erin Napier Nostalgic Over Custom Crib

However, not all comments were focused on safe sleeping. Several fans offered up ideas for repurposing the piece of furniture. A few people suggested that they use the crib as a headboard and footboard for a twin bed. Others thought it would be a sweet thing to keep and pass down to the girls once they’re old enough to have their own kids.

In a follow-up Instagram Story, Erin Napier asked her followers to “Pray for Ben” who is seemingly having a tough time watching their little ones grow up.

For his part, Ben also shared a carousel post on Instagram. The first and seconds snapshots showed Ben constructing the crib. The next photos showed the girls with their faces covered sleeping in the bed and the final picture in the carousel was of Ben and Erin while she was pregnant with Helen.

Ben’s caption revealed that their youngest, Mae, was now moving on to her “big girl bed.” He shared, “The white oak crib will go into storage until my babies become mamas, then it will be used again.”
