Mark Harmon To Appear In ‘NCIS: Origins’
NCIS: Origins is coming to CBS this fall, and fans of the original series have received some incredible news. While Mark Harmon is an executive producer and will narrate the episodes (similar to Jim Parsons on Young Sheldon), he was not expected to appear at all on screen. That has changed.
Here is what has changed and what to expect from Mark Harmon on the new show.
Mark Harmon To Appear In NCIS: Origins
Mark Harmon was going to narrate NCIS: Origins, but he had no plans to appear on screen in the prequel series. However, that has now changed, and it looks like Harmon will appear in at least the premiere episode of the series.
Co-showrunner David J. North said they filmed new footage of Harmon for the prequel that premieres on October 14 on CBS (via Deadline). “That was a discussion between Mark, myself and Gina Monreal,” North said about having Harmon appear onscreen. “I hope the audience will be excited to see him after so many years.”
However, this might be the only time that Harmon shows up in the series. According to North, they are focusing on telling the story from 1991, and that will feature Austin Stowell (Bridge of Spies) as Gibbs, who is just getting started with NCIS. However, North added, “As far as Mark appearing again, we are open to anything.”
What Is NCIS: Origins About?
NCIS: Origins starts before the events of NCIS. In the new series, a young Gibbs starts his career as a new special agent at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office, where he finds his place on a team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).
NCIS: Origins also features a young version of Vera Strickland. Roma Maffia originally played the role, which is now played by Diany Rodriguez. Mariel Molino plays the potential love interest, Agent Lala Dominguez and Tyla Abercrombie signed on as protective Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo.
Bobby Moynihan will play the role of Woodrow “Woody” Browne, the lead forensic scientist (this show’s version of Ducky). Lori Petty plays Dr. Lenora Friedman, the pathologist at the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office. Robert Taylor will joined the cast as Jackson Gibbs.
The series takes place in 1991, and the story picks up right after Gibbs’s wife and daughter are murdered. Wanting revenge, he sets his sights on becoming a top NCIS agent, as he continues to obsess about the man who murdered his family.
