‘GMA’ Michael Strahan Teases Retirement From ABC
Michael Strahan has hinted at possibly stepping away from his role on Good Morning America. The former NFL player discussed his career in an interview this week and now he’s looking at what the future of his career might be. So, is Michael retiring from GMA? Here’s what he revealed.
Michael Strahan Opens Up About His Job On GMA
The 51-year-old talked about his football and TV career during an interview earlier this week. After retiring from the NFL in 2008, Michael Strahan has become well-known in the world of television.
He became an NFL analyst on Fox following his retirement from the field. Then, he stepped into his co-hosting role on Good Morning America in 2014. After 10 years, he has become a fan-favorite part of the morning show. Viewers take note of when he is missing and enjoy getting updates about his family.
Michael Strahan made an appearance at the Economic Club of New York on Monday. While there, he was asked about his work on GMA.
“GMA is fantastic. I love Robin, I love George, it changes every day you can’t get bored,” he told ENCY Chair Emeritus, Terry Lundgren. “It gives me a chance to travel the world, do interesting things, and talk to interesting people.”
He went on to talk about adjusting to morning television while continuing to work for Fox. “I was not a morning person at all, I’ve had to develop into a morning person,” the GMA co-host said. “I love to be home, I love the quiet, I don’t like attention. There was a learning curve joining the show, I’m like an extroverted introvert.”
No Regrets Retiring From Football When He Did
When it comes to retiring from his television career, Michael Strahan doesn’t think that will be happening anytime soon. His current gigs offer him plenty of flexibility and he’s able to enjoy his career. Why leave?
During his interview, Michael also opened up about his NFL career. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end during his time as a pro football player. Michaels also helped lead the New York Giants to the Super Bowl in 2008, where they won.
“The thing that I miss [about] football is that competitiveness of it. And I just didn’t want to be average. If I want to do something, I want to be great at it,” he told the interviewer.
That being said, he stands by his choice to step away from the game when he did. “I don’t regret my retirement now,” Michael said “All of the timing worked out, I’m so happy I retired from football when I did. I never wanted to be a guy who didn’t give everything to the game, if I would’ve come back it would’ve been for finances. I didn’t want to cheat the game like that.”
Michael Strahan still loves football though. He is continuing to work on Fox NFL Sunday and will appear on the program for Week 3. Then, he’ll be back on GMA throughout the week.
