The Emmy Awards showed their annual In Memoriam this year, honoring those who died during the past year. Among the honorees this year are Bob Newhart, Richard Simmons, Shannen Doherty, Carl Weathers, Richard Lewis, Donald Sutherland, and James Earl Jones. However, many fans noticed Matthew Perry wasn’t honored.

There is a good reason for his omission from this year’s In Memoriam.

Why Wasn’t Matthew Perry In Emmy’s In Memoriam?

The In Memoriam had plenty of sad losses in the entertainment industry. However, when it finished, some fans wondered why Matthew Perry wasn’t in the listing. Perry died last October, so the ceremony falls within a year of his death.

This led people online to ask why Perry was “snubbed.”

  • How do you forget Matthew Perry in your memorial of people that passed”
  • did I miss it or did the Emmy’s not show Matthew Perry????”
  • No Matthew Perry, Treat Williams or Shelley Duvall in the In Memoriam segment? Shame on you #Emmys”

However, what these people didn’t understand is that the Emmys did honor Matthew Perry in the In Memoriam. It happened at the last Emmys ceremony. The 75th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards was pushed to January 2024 because of the WGA and SAG strikes in 2023.

At that ceremony, the Emmys listed Matthew Perry in the In Memoriam. Because they already honored him, there was no reason to repeat this at the 76th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

Updates On Matthew Perry Death Criminal Cases

While fans wanted the Primetime Emmys to honor Matthew Perry for a second straight ceremony, the court cases for those deemed responsible for his death continue.

Three people have pleaded guilty to being partially responsible for Matthew Perry’s death. This includes his personal assistant, a doctor from San Diego who initially acquired the ketamine, and a go-between who hooked Perry up with the so-called Ketamine Queen.

Mark Chavez, 54, is the doctor from San Diego who pleaded guilty to one felony count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine. He had his medical license suspended. However, the person he allegedly gave the ketamine to, who reportedly sold it to Perry, is still practicing medicine in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles doctor Salvador Plasencia reopened his clinic while on bail and can practice medicine. However, he can’t prescribe any controlled substances. Plasencia pleaded not guilty, but he could receive a life sentence if convicted.

The other defendant is Javen Sangha, known as the Ketamine Queen. She also pleaded not guilty but could face up to 120 years in prison.
