Peacock Dating Show To End After One Season
A new Peacock dating series might not be getting a second season. The series, Couple to Throuple, revolved around couples considering expanding on their love lives with a new member. However, another dating series is expected to be returning for another season.
The Series Has Effectively Been Put On Ice
Couple to Throuple explored the idea of polyamory. The series has four couples live in a remote house with a group of individuals. Throughout the series, the couples consider inviting these individuals to start a new relationship. As things go on, the couples can either stay with the single individual or choose a new one. Of course, the couples have the option of going home as they were. That said, some might end up going home alone.
Scott Evans, known for his work with Access Hollywood, and relationship therapist Shamyra Howard served the show’s hosts. Some prominent constants included celebrity personal trainer Brittne Babe and Chicago attorney Ashmal Ali.
Deadline confirmed that the series, while not officially canceled, won’t continue after its first season, effectively putting it on hiatus. The phrasing could be taken to suggest the series might come back, but not for the immediate future. For the time being, the series is still available to watch on the Peacock streaming service.
For her part, according to the BBC, Howard talked about the importance of exploring polyamory in a controlled setting. As she explained, “Having a professional guide the couples through the process is important. They’re highlighting the unsexy side of poly.”
Howard also talked about how people might misunderstand what polyamory really entails. As she continued, “The processing, communication, and intimacy that the couples need to have before a throuple is even a thought. To me, intimacy is the culture of the relationship when they’re not having sex. Vanilla folks just think it’s all sex. That’s swinging, not polyamory.”
Another Peacock Dating Series Might Be Getting Another Season
The series was produced by the Freemantle label Naked, which also worked on Planet Sex with Cara Delevingne. That series also explored similar themes of polyamory and monogamy.
That’s not to say Peacock has given up on romance when it comes to their reality shows. Love Island, also known as Love Island USA outside of the United States, is expected to return for another season.
The series, an American remake of the British series of the same name, was initially commissioned by CBS. However, the series was picked up by Peacock for its fourth season.
