Yet, now she is finally opening up about what life was like before she found her niche in the industry. Keep reading for more details.
Carmen Electra Shares Struggling & Being Homeless
For years, Carmen Electra was known as a Baywatch babe, a spokesmodel, and someone who could comically poke fun at herself. She was able to do so in films like Scary Movie and Disaster Movie while always having fun. Carmen also took a chance with reality television when she and musician, Dave Navarro were getting ready to tie the knot. They starred on the MTV reality series, ‘Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave. Sadly, the show and the marriage did not last long but they did look very much in love and gave it a good college try.
She currently appears at 90s-based conventions with other celebrities and performers of the genres plus has a highly successful OnlyFans. Yet, there was a time when Carmen was just Tara Leigh Patrick and trying to make it in the industry. That meant not living in the most luxurious conditions and struggling regularly. According to People, Carmen chatted all about it at 90s Con Florida on Saturday, September 14th. She was seated on a panel alongside Juliette Lewis and Sweet Valley High twins, Cynthia Hauser and Brittany Daniel.
In this discussion, Carmen Electra shared her early days and admitted she was quite shy at the start. She then addressed the kind of family she came from and how they did not have much money for her to launch herself:
“I was homeless in L.A., I’m not from a rich family or anything like that. I knew where I needed to be in N.Y. or L.A… So there was a lot of struggling, and I didn’t really know what I was going to do. But I just started to try things and come out of my shell really. So that’s the beginning.”
As a dancer, which she was trained in, Carmen knew that it would not be an easy road. It was disheartening to believe that she would actually get anywhere or be anything in a field she loved:
“I would not want to go into auditions, I’d leave and say everyone’s so pretty, I can’t do this, I can’t memorize anything.”
Having Faith
So, after being homeless and feeling that she would never amount to what she hoped and dreamed of being, how did Carmen Electra get to where she wanted to go?
“I felt like trying things and meeting some good people on the way that helped me.”
One of those people was the late, iconic Prince who changed her name and produced her debut album.
“He just set me up and he was so supportive. With his support I got a tad bit more confident and just tried things and tried to keep that in mind with all my insecurities that I still have.”
From there, it seems that the world became her oyster and she landed a plethora of amazing roles. She was in Baywatch, Starsky & Hutch, and Date Movie. Yet, she may not have appreciated all of what she has had if she had not had to work as hard.
