‘The View’ SLAMS ‘DWTS’ Casting, ‘Dancing With The Felons’
Dancing With The Stars just put out this season’s new cast list. However, not everyone is excited to see the Season 33 celebrities compete. In fact, many viewers have expressed frustration and outright ire over the show’s decision to cast Anna Delvey.
Delvey, whose birth name is Anna Sorokin, pretended to be a wealthy heiress in order to scam wealthy families from 2013-2017. Netflix dramatized the scheme in Inventing Anna.
Many DWTS fans believe Delvey has no place in the competition. Among them are the hosts of The View.
Anna Delvey Got Special Permission To Compete On DWTS
Before the official cast list came out on September 4, rumors started circulating that convicted con artist Anna Delvey would be part of the show. Many didn’t believe it could be true. After all, she is under house arrest and has an ankle monitor. How could Delvey possibly compete on DWTS?
However, on September 4, those rumors proved to be true.
After making her debut on Good Morning America, Anna Delvey explained how it was all possible.
“Well, [DWTS] approached my team and I had to request ICE for permission to travel out of state because it’s being filmed in Los Angeles and I’m based in New York,” the con artist told PEOPLE. “It took them about 10 days to get it through the system and to get everything approved.”
The 33-year-old stoked outrage from DWTS fans when she said in a subsequent interview that she didn’t really care about the competition or the Mirrorball Trophy.
The View Slams The Show For Casting Anna Delvey
The women of The View thought it was in incredibly poor taste to allow Anna Delvey to compete. Joy Behar suggested they might as well change the name to “Dancing With The Felons.”
Whoopi Goldberg found the entire situation completely disgusting and suggested that Delvey was extremely privileged to be in her situation.
“I think back to all the families who’ve had family members arrested by ICE, who have gone to the courts to get their dad or their brother or their mother back, and this woman, they gave her permission to go do this?” Whoopi firmly stated. “Is there a two-tiered system with ICE?”

On Instagram, plenty of The View fans echoed similar sentiments. Comments included:
- “She got off easy cause she’s a cute white woman who Netflix created a whole series about and elevated her to stardom. Are we surprised? We have 2 justice systems one for white people especially of privilege or celebrity and people of color. The USA needs to change this ASAP 😡”
- “Bad move on ABC’s part!”
- “Len Goodman is spinning in his grave.”
What do you think about Anna Delvey joining DWTS this year? Will you tune in anyway, or do you think this was a massive mistake? Leave your own thoughts in the comments.
