‘DWTS’ Ezra Sosa Talks Huge Opportunity & How He Came Out
Ezra Sosa is the newest professional dancer to join Dancing With The Stars. Former pro Cheryl Burke accidentally leaked the information before Ezra made a formal announcement on his own social media pages.
Now, he’s freely talking about the new opportunity and what it means to him. Check out his new interview ahead of the Season 33 premiere.
Ezra Sosa Feels Ecstatic To Be A Pro Dancer
DWTS fans have seen Ezra Sosa on the show before. But this year will be different than before. He’s going to have his own celebrity partner and compete for the Mirrorball Trophy.
“It hasn’t hit me yet,” the newest pro dancer shared in a new interview with GLAAD. “When I got the call, I honestly was in a state of shock.”
Back in Season 30, he joined the show and subbed in for pro dancers as needed. Even though he didn’t have his own celebrity partner, the So You Think You Can Dance alum felt at home.
“When I first joined the show, it was the first time I was in an environment where I truly felt accepted,” Ezra continued. “That has a huge sense of me becoming the person I am today.”
The 23-year-old is excited to celebrate Latino inclusion in the ballroom this year as well. Growing up in Utah, he admits he didn’t have a great opportunity to explore his Latin roots.

The Dancer Credits JoJo Siwa With Helping Him Express Himself
In Season 30, Ezra Sosa met one of his dearest friends, JoJo Siwa. She competed as a celebrity contestant that year and made history as the first same-sex couple to compete on the show. JoJo and her pro partner Jenna Johnson came in second place behind Daniella Karagach and Iman Shumpert that year.
Ezra and JoJo went on to form an everlasting friendship. On social media, the friends can be seen in one another’s photos quite frequently.

“When I first met (JoJo Siwa) on the show, she knew I was in the closet, she knew I was gay, but she also knew how uncomfortable I was in my own skin,” Ezra continued. He went on to share how JoJo changed his life when he went on tour with her and helped him accept himself.
“It was constant days where she would put makeup on my face and I would be bawling in her arms because it made me so uncomfortable because I was raised that it wasn’t ok for guys to wear makeup, for guys to wear glittery things, for guys to wear crop tops, but she was this person starting to introduce these things into my life and it took a very long time,” he shared.
