Jeopardy! is still on hiatus for the summer and airing reruns. However, that didn’t stop fans from expressing concern about one contestant after an intense game. Another contestant has taken to social media to clarify why the player looked like he was having such a tough time.

Is Alex Jacob Okay Following His Jeopardy! Loss?

Last week, a rerun aired where viewers got to see Alex Jacob at the podium. The 39-year-old was a former professional poker player and swiftly became a Jeopardy! fan-favorite.

At the end of the episode, many fans noticed that Alex looked a bit glum at the end of his run on the game show. Viewers took to Reddit to discuss his well-being.

One fan started the discussion by asking, “He seemed sad or discouraged during tonight’s game/replay?? Anyone think so?”

Another viewer agreed, “I’m in his School of Trivia league and he’s really gotten behind with sending out/scoring quizzes the past few months. I hope everything is alright with him, seems like such a cool guy.”

A third fan weighed in on Alex’s gameplay. “He didn’t seem at the top of his game. And come to think of it many of the players in this tournament didn’t,” they wrote. “Which has me wondering if some of the complaints that players had about the short preparation time had some effect here.”

“I think that’s just his look or demeanor,” a fourth person suggested. “He has a serious, intense, no-frills way about it. But he definitely seemed upset at the end about missing that Final.”

Eventually, the Jeopardy! contestant who beat Alex weighed in on the situation. Champion Jennifer Quail revealed that it was “kind of an intense week.”

She continued, “Play-wise Alex was great. He’s so fast his podium’s lights are distracting when they’re in the corner of your vision.”

Major Changes Coming To The Format Of Jeopardy!

All of this comes after executive producer Michael Davies announced some major changes in the format for Jeopardy! Season 41. He said that he wants to bring over something from Celebrity Jeopardy! that seems to help the audience understand the flow of the game better.

On the “Inside Jeopardy!” podcast, Michael pointed out that “some parts of our audience get very lost in our gameplay.” With many of the players hunting for the Daily Double, they jump all over the board. They may start at the higher dollar clues first.

“I don’t think it would ever be natural to dictate players to play in a certain order,” the Jeopardy! exec said. But there could be something done to make it clearer what’s going on.

In the celebrity version of the game show, you would see the three contestants on the right side of the screen. On the left, the full game board was displayed as people chose categories.

Additionally, they highlighted where players chose them so viewers could get a “real geographical sense of where the clue was coming from.”

Season 41 of Jeopardy! kicks off on September 9 and is set to run through July 25, 2025.
