‘Today’ Craig Melvin Shares What Al Roker Did For Him
Craig Melvin has a close bond with Al Roker. The two members of the Today cast have been connected for years. In a recent interview, Craig talked about why he feels indebted to Al and why he owes him so much. In the end, he said Al lifted him up when he needed help the most.

Craig Melvin Talks Relationship With Al Roker
Craig Melvin took part in an interview, and the conversation drifted to his relationship with Al Roker. The two work together on The Today Show, and Craig said that he owes Roker a debt that he might never repay.
“It started, I was new to the show. And the Today Show is a very, it’s a delicate ecosystem. It’s been around for more than 70 years. It’s an American Institution,” Craig said (via PEOPLE). He said there was a tight inner circle that is not easy to break into.
However, Craig said Al Roker was the first to welcome him “with open arms.” Craig then said that it helped him find his way in because Roker “made it clear from the beginning that he had my back, and I’ve never forgotten that.”
Craig Melvin On What Al Roker Did For Him
Craig Melvin said that things only got better as time wore on. While Al Roker was there for him at the start, they have become close friends since that time.
“We sit next to each other every morning for hours. So he’s heard all of my stories. I’ve heard all of his stories, four or five times,” Craig said. He went on to say that being this close at work has helped lead to their bonding.
He also said that he has had serious moments in his life, and Al was there for him to lift him back up. “Some of my darkest moments, personally, it’s been Roker who’s called first to check on me, check on my family,” Craig said about Al.
Melvin also said that he sent a text message from his parents, and they wished Al a happy birthday in the message. Craig also said he spent time with Al’s daughter, who lives in Paris, during the 2024 Summer Olympics. “God, when I’m 70, I’d love to be that kind of dad, that kind of granddad, that kind of husband.” Craig said. “That’s who you want to be.”
