John Stamos Reveals Why Scientology Church Rejected Him
There are a lot of celebrities who are members of the Church of Scientology. However, there is one celebrity who was invited to join but ended up being asked to leave the day he showed up. In a recent podcast appearance, John Stamos explained how he was invited to learn more about the church and why they asked him to leave.
Here is why the Church of Scientology decided they didn’t want John Stamos to join their group.
John Stamos Was Too ‘Annoying’ For Church Of Scientology
John Stamos was on the Friends in High Places podcast, talking to Matt Friend about an event that happened when he was 17. Stamos said that he was asked to join the Church of Scientology. He was lured in because a hot girl invited him, and his acting idol, John Travolta, joined in 1975.
“Seeing [Grease] was like, ‘I wanna be that,” Stamos said. “I wanted to be John Travolta, I still do. Well, minus the whatever it is that they do,” referring to Scientology.
As for the moment that he almost joined, he said that he was in acting class when he was 17. He met a “hot girl” in class, and she invited him to a meeting at the Church of Scientology. They were meeting on Hollywood Boulevard, and he was working at his dad’s restaurant at the time. He left work and met her at the center.
John said he was taken in and shown the “E-Meter.” He said it was made of two cans, and the church claims the device can indicate changes in emotional states. He then started playing with the cans, pretending they were fake phones.
“I was doing a Peabody and Sherman [impression] and they didn’t like that,” Stamos said. He said he was messing around so much that they kicked him out. “That’s pretty bad, I must have been terrible,” Stamos said about being too annoying to join the Church of Scientology.
He admitted that the girl (Mia) ran after him and gave him some books to study. However, he said that he was intrigued, but he thought it was “creepy as f**k,” so he never went back.
What Celebrities Are In The Church Of Scientology?
The Church of Scientology has several major names as members. The biggest of them are John Travolta and Tom Cruise. Jason Lee is also a member, as was Kirstie Alley and Kelly Preston.
However, there are other celebrities who left the Church, and that caused a lot of problems. The biggest of these is Leah Remini. She was allegedly separated from her family after leaving. She also made a documentary detailing her experiences with the church.
