Who Is Scott Peterson?

Scott Peterson was born in 1972, and he met Laci Denise Peterson when he was at Cal Tech. After dating for two years, Scott married Laci in 1997. In 2002, Laci became pregnant, but Scott began cheating on her with a massage therapist before the baby was born.

Laci disappeared on Christmas Eve 2002 while she was eight months pregnant. Scott told police she was home when he left to play golf that morning. However, police soon learned he had driven to Berkeley Marina, almost 90 miles away that day. He said he was going fishing.

In 2003, the woman he had cheated on Laci with came forward and admitted to the affair. She says Scott told her at the time that his wife had died. Three months later, Laci’s dead body washed up on shore near where Scott went fishing the day she disappeared.

Police arrested Scott in April 2003, and the jury found him guilty in November 2004. The Innocence Project said they will investigate the burglary that occurred across the street and a van that was burned near Laci’s home.
