Old Interview Resurfaces Of Blake Lively Using Defamatory Term

Several interviews with Blake Lively over the years have resurfaced. Now, fans are calling her out on social media for using a transgender slur multiple times.

In an interview with Elle magazine in 2012, the This Ends With Us star used the word “trannies” when speaking about her future children. A social media user called her out on Sunday, bringing up the old interview.

“sometimes ill [sic] be quietly going about my day and then ill [sic] remember the time blake lively said this to a journalist,” a person posted on X. They shared an image along with the tweet that directly quoted Blake Lively.

It read, “I hope to have a few girls one day. If not girls, they better be trannies. Because I have some amazing shoes and bags and stories that need to be appreciated.”

The use of the word “tranny” is what has everyone’s hackles up. Some members of the trans community find the term offensive and it has been deemed defamatory in many LGBTQ circles.

“You just blew up the whole smear campaign with this one,” one X user commented. “Not Lady Deadpool…” a second person wrote in disbelief.

Not everyone was ready to slam Blake Lively though. Other people showed the actress some grace and just thought she could have worded it differently.

“I’m actually not mad at this at all. The word was throw [sic] around a lot back in the day. If it was said today it would be problematic, but nothing is wrong w wishing for a trans child,” one person responded. “I get what she was trying to say because someone better appreciate all that Vintage Versace she has. But she could’ve used different wording,” another fan chimed in.

However, the 2012 interview wasn’t the only time Blake has used the term freely. In 2009, she sat down for an interview with Allure. The focus of the piece was on her insecurities on the set of Gossip Girl.

At the time, she said, “I feel like a tranny a lot of the time. I don’t know, I’m… large? They put me in six-inch heels, and I tower over every man.”

She continued, “I’ve got this long hair and lots of clothes and makeup on. I just feel really big a lot of the time, and I’m surrounded by a lot of tiny people. I feel like a man sometimes.”

Surprisingly, that wasn’t it. In yet another interview in 2008, Blake Lively addressed rumors that she wasn’t feuding with her Gossip Girl co-star Leighton Meester. Speaking about gossip magazines, she said, “You read the gossip magazines and everybody is dating everyone, everybody hates everyone, everybody’s had tons of plastic surgery and we’re actually men and trannies. You don’t listen to the rumors.”

The old interviews have resurfaced as Blake faces more and more scrutiny on her press tour for It Ends With Us. There are rumors that she is in a feud with her co-star Justin Baldoni.

Fans have also criticized the actress for focusing on promoting her floral fashion line and haircare line rather than the domestic violence themes in the film. Others have said she presented “Regina George” behavior during the tour as well after she didn’t wear a bracelet a fan gave her on the red carpet.

  1. I think p3ople just need a reason to complain about thing said years and years ago so it makes others look bad. How about looking for good in each other.

    1. People get too hung up over words and labels. In fact its this generation who say they dont want to be labeled who actually created all the new labels. Once upon a time, queer was an offensive term and now the LGBTQIA community is embracing it.
