‘DWTS’ Jenna Johnson Defends Parenting Decision
Parenting is a difficult enough job on its own. And for professional dancers like Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovksiy, every decision they make is scrutinized by the public.
But even so, the DWTS pros are determined to raise their son Rome their own way. Check out the social media post Jenna made to defend her choices.
Jenna Johnson & Val Chmerkovskiy Take Their Son Everywhere They Go
DWTS Season 33 is just around the corner, but the Chmerkovskiys are soaking up some last bit of summer fun together. They spent some time together in beautiful Chicago.
“Roaming the city with my boy!!” Jenna captioned an Instagram post of herself and Rome exploring Chicago.
She added that a follower sent her an unkind DM after Rome’s latest bout with croup and shamed her for traveling with him so often.
“I’ve always known I would be a working mom. And especially in my line of work, knew I’d probably need to travel often,” the professional dancer continued. “When we first started talking about having kids we both were on the same page that even though it may not always be the ‘comfortable’ option we would try to always bring our baby along for the ride (for as long as we could) so we could both fulfill our dreams and be hands on parents.”
“Watching Rome explore Chicago this summer has been so beautiful. Seeing him experience different cultures, foods, people, climates, and making friends around the country brings tears to my eyes that we get to share these memories as a family!”
Jenna concluded the post by encouraging other parents to explore the world with their children and do what’s best for their families.

Instagram Users Rally Around The Chmerkovskiys
Jenna and Val’s Instagram followers stuck up for the family in the comments. They wrote encouraging messages including:
- “Tell her to mind her damn business. Kids get sick at home too. Live your best life!!! You are a wonderful mother ❤️❤️❤️”
- “I remember someone telling me that kids are going to be sick a lot until they’re five years old. It was so true. I took my son everywhere with me. I don’t regret it for a moment.”
- “You travel for work. Those same people would be pitching a fit if you left him home with a nanny all the time.”
Professional dancer Daniella Karagach and former wrestler Nikki Garcia also left positive messages for the family in the comments. At the end of the day, everyone genuinely rallied around Jenna, Val, and their decision to show baby Rome the world.
