Nicole Scherzinger Leaving ‘Masked Singer’ For New Reality Show
Nicole Scherzinger has made a shocking announcement about her future as a reality TV competition judge. Now in her second season away from The Masked Singer, many fans felt that she was going to return soon. However, it now looks like she won’t be back at all. Nicole has a new reality TV gig lined up.
Here is what Scherzinger is doing next on reality competition television.
Nicole Scherzinger Joining New Realty Competition Series
Nicole Scherzinger is heading to a brand-new reality television singing competition show. Unlike The Masked Singer, which just has celebs in costumes singing songs for fun, this is another competition series looking to create the next big singing stars. The new show will seek to build the next big band.
The new show is titled Building the Band. Scherzinger will be one of three judges, along with Kelly Rowand of Destiny’s Child and Liam Payne of One Direction. These specific singers are very knowledgeable about what the show is trying to accomplish.
Netflix will air the series, and it will take singers and form bands in “booths” with the competitors unable to see each other. They must rely on “musical compatibility, connection, chemistry and merit.” Once formed, the band members meet face to face, where “looks, choreography and style” come into play. Netflix promises “incredible performances, compelling drama and one big goal — to find the next great music band” (via TV Line).
Liam Payne and One Direction were formed on The X Factor when each member auditioned as a solo singer before Simon Cowell put them together as a band. They went on to sell over 70 million albums worldwide. Nicole Scherzinger was part of The Pussycat Dolls, a burlesque group that morphed into a pop group with several members.
On the other hand, Destiny’s Child started as a band called Girl’s Time in 1990 before changing their name and becoming an award-winning band, selling over 60 million albums.
What About The Masked Singer?
Since Nicole Scherzinger is not returning to The Masked Singer, Rita Ora will likely be a permanent panel member. She works alongside Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg. At first, it seemed she was only there while Nicole was touring, but now things look doubtful.
Rita Ora, a panelist on the British version of the show, replaced Nicole Scherzinger in Season 11 while Nicole performed in Sunset Boulevard in the West End. Rita was also announced to be returning in Season 12, but there has been no word on Nicole. Now, it appears that Nicole might be finished with The Masked Singer.
