Katie Holmes recently opened up about her daughter in a rare update. So, what did she have to say about the daughter she shares with Hollywood A-lister, Tom Cruise?
Katie Holmes And Tom Cruise Share A Daughter
Katie Holmes and Hollywood leading man Tom Cruise started dating in 2005. Things were hot and heavy for these two, especially in the beginning. Holmes, who was raised Catholic, even began studying Scientology not long after she started dating the actor.
Exactly a year later, the couple welcomed their daughter, Suri Cruise. She was born in 2006 on the first anniversary of the couple’s first date. As with many Hollywood romances, however, these two did not last for the long haul as a couple. The pair were married for nearly six years before they officially went their separate ways.
Tom Cruise Not Actively Involved In Daughter’s Life
As many people see, Tom Cruise is very much still in the public eye. He carried the flag at the closing ceremony of the Olympics in Paris and drove with it on a motorcycle, channeling his iconic character from Top Gun, Maverick.
Unfortunately, Tom Cruise has not been active in his daughter’s life. So much so that recent reports suggest that Suri even dropped her famous father’s last name at her recent high school graduation. It turns out, Tom Cruise did not attend this major milestone in his daughter’s life. In this aspect, it’s not entirely surprising that the young woman decided to ditch her famous dad’s last name.
While there may always be hope for reconciliation in the future to potentially repair that relationship, as of right now, things are clearly still estranged between the actor and his daughter.
Katie Holmes Opens Up About Her Daughter As She Begins A New Chapter
Katie Holmes recently gushed about her daughter in a rare update. Not only did Suri recently graduate high school, but, she will also attend college as well. Suri was raised largely in New York with her mother. Following the former couple’s split, they agreed that Suri would live on the East Coast.
Speaking to Town & Country, Katie Holmes spoke of this next chapter for her daughter and how she feels about it. The mother and daughter are often seen together in New York City. Now, however, this next phase includes Holmes adjusting to life with an empty nest.

Katie Holmes said: “I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy.”
Holmes continued, saying: “I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”
