Taylor Swift Finally Beats Kanye West Where It Counts
The Taylor Swift and Kanye West feud has raged on for years. However, as far as many Swifties are concerned, Taylor just won the war. Taylor and Kanye have had a war of words and have released songs dissing each other, However, it seems that the real victory came when Taylor surpassed Kanye right where it matters.
Here is what Taylor Swift just did for the first time in her career.
Taylor Swift Beats Kanye West On The Charts
Taylor Swift released her most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department, way back in April. While the album has been out for four months, it has been at the number-one spot on the Billboard charts for 14 consecutive weeks. She faced some serious competition last week when Kanye West released his new album.
Kanye released Vultures II on August 3. The album was a success, but it just wasn’t good enough. Vultures II debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 album chart. This is Kanye’s 13th album and it is the first one since Late Registration that didn’t debut at number one. It isn’t that Kanye fell short, it is that Taylor Swift was who kept him out of that spot.
Swifties online loved it and yelled out that Taylor Swift had defeated Kanye West in their long-standing war.
- “Taylor Swift has officially ended Kanye West’s streak of #1 albums on the Billboard 200.”
- “Karma is her boyfriend.”
- “I’m so glad she finally got revenge against him.”
Taylor Swift and Kanye West have been interlocked ever since Kanye stormed the stage at the 2009 VMAs to interrupt her acceptance speech for Best Female Video. Kanye took Taylor’s mic and said Beyonce should have won. It was an embarrassing moment that Taylor said Kanye later apologized for.
However, their feud continued when Kanye referred to Taylor as “that bi*ch” in the song “Famous,” which angered Taylor. When Swift said she never signed off on that, Kim Kardashian released a doctored phone call that made it look like she did. The real phone recording was released in 2020 to show Taylor was telling the truth.
Taylor Swift’s Time On Top
The victory for Taylor Swift continues her amazing streak at the top of the charts. Swift sold 142,000 units over the week to remain number one (Kanye sold 107,000). Her 14 weeks on top of the charts is the most for any artist since Morgan Wallen spent 19 nonconsecutive weeks at number one for One Thing at a Time.
Taylor is also the first female artist to spend this long at number one since Adele released 21 in 2011. Adele spent 24 nonconsecutive weeks at number one.
