Matthew Perry Death Like Michael Jackson’s, Criminal Charges Soon?
Matthew Perry died from a ketamine overdose while sitting his his hot tub in October 2023. While it has been 10 months since his death, the police are still investigating his death. Not only that, but the authorities are now saying there will be criminal charges coming, and someone could end up charged with manslaughter.
Here is what you need to know about the legal case following Matthew Perry’s death.
Police Threatening Jail Time For Matthew Perry Death
The police are actively investigating certain individuals for Matthew Perry’s death. The police are investigating doctors who may have written Perry an under-the-table prescription, drug dealers who could’ve sold him the ketamine illegally, and friends or associates who helped with any illicit transaction.
According to sources, the authorities will want to prosecute the case to the full extent of the law. Tre Lovell, a veteran entertainment attorney, said this investigation will be similar to those after Michael Jackson and Mac Miller’s deaths (via The U.S. Sun).
Michael Jackson’s death was caused by a propofol overdose. Conrad Murray, MJ’s personal physician, gave Jackson various medications to help him sleep. In 2011, Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to four years in prison.
Mac Miller died of a “mixed drug toxicity” of fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol. Police arrested three men. Cameron James Pettit allegedly sold Mac counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl. Ryan Reavis delivered the drugs to Pettit, and Stephen Walter supplied them. Reavis ended up sentenced to ten years in prison. Walter received a 17-year prison sentence. Cameron James Pettit received an unknown sentence. Pettit gets out of prison this October.
What Could Happen In Matthew Perry’s Death Case?
According to Lovell, “The most likely charge is involuntary manslaughter, and that could apply to a physician who may have prescribed him the medication.” This would be similar to Michael Jackson’s case.
Lovell also said that second-degree murder charges could also be possible depending on how bad the accused actions were. The prosecutors must figure out who the doctor was, where he was licensed, and whether it was a legitimate prescription.
If it is a friend or drug dealer, the question is whether they know Perry was addicted to it or that he was taking it in an unsafe manner. That would determine if the charges are manslaughter or murder. “It could amount to second-degree murder charges, depending on the relationship they had with Perry and what they knew and if there was a foreseeability of harm,” Lovell said.
At the moment, only one name known has been connected to the investigation. The police have served multiple search warrants for Brooke Mueller and the sober living facility where she lives.
