Candace Cameron Bure is reflecting on the Full House weight pressures that she experienced during her time on the hit series. Though it was a family show, it often tackled real-life issues. Keep reading for all of the details.

Candace Cameron Bure Reflects On Full House Weight Pressures

Full House was on for eight seasons and was a highly popular and successful family series. It dealt with a variety of issues from death to remarriage to alcohol and more. One of them that directly affected Candace Cameron Bure was weight. She spoke about this during an episode of Pod Meets World which aired on Monday, August 12th. According to People, Candace noted this:

“I was always the chubby-cheeked girl, and a lot of people loved that I was. And I can look back and go, like, ‘I was just a normal, average girl.’ And you meet people and they’re always like, ‘You’re so much thinner in person.’“

In one episode of the series, they addressed her weight when she was going to a pool party. Candace played DJ Tanner and wanted to look amazing for this party so she decided to drop some pounds but not the right way. This meant working out incredibly hard at the gym while only eating ice pops aka a crash diet. It got so bad that she passed out and she had to understand what she was doing to herself.

However, Candace knew this Full House episode was coming as she and her family were made aware of it in advance:

“They actually talked to my mom and dad and they talked to me and said, ‘Would you feel comfortable if we wrote an episode like this?’ And I was like, ’Yeah, sure.’ But when you’re in it and doing it, it feels a little awkward.”

Pod Meets World is hosted by some of the cast of Boy Meets World, one of them being Danielle Fishel. She played Topanga Lawrence and detailed how her weight became the focal point of an episode.

Boy Meets Weight

Full House took one approach with Candace Cameron Bure going on a crash diet. However, Boy Meets World took another with Danielle Fishel. She had to deal with a weight episode that included co-star Will Friedle:

“They called me into the office to tell me they were going to [do it]. It wasn’t really like they asked. They just kind of said, ‘We just want you to know…obviously you guys have gained a little bit of weight. So we’re going to write an episode about it.‘“

Candace felt horrible because at least she was asked. She then noted how she had returned after one season and dropped weight so the idea was to have her on workout equipment in the opening scene:

“I had lost, like, 20 lbs. from the end of one season to another. I came in losing 20 lbs., but they thought it was so great and they were like, ‘Oh, on the opening titles, why don’t we have you on an exercise bike, like just to promote that?’ And looking back, I don’t think that was bad. I mean, I really put a lot of hard work and effort into losing 20 lbs.”

In the end, Candace Cameron Bure wants to tell her teenage self not to listen to anyone and just hug her. More so, she knows she would have been insecure no matter if she was on television or not. It just made it worse. Now, she knows better and she knows it was not just her.

Can you believe that Candace and Danielle went through that? Does it change your perspective of those episodes? Let us know in the comments below.
