‘Family Feud’ Fans Slam ‘Unwatchable’ Show, Steve Harvey To Blame?
Family Feud fans had plenty to say about the game show recently, and the vast majority of it wasn’t good. Some even called the program “unwatchable.” Is host Steve Harvey to blame for this recent negative backlash?
Family Feud Started Out As A Family Show
When Family Feud first premiered almost 50 years ago, the idea was for it to be a family-friendly show that the entire brood could watch. In all of those decades since, the game show has become an integral part of households across the country.
Whenever most people who are even casual watchers of the show think of it, many of them have fond memories of watching the program with a relative or someone else close to them. While the game show isn’t perfect by any means, it’s certainly a part of the social fabric.
Viewers Blast The Game Show, Say It’s “Unwatchable”
As Family Feud has gone on, there has been a steady stream of viewers regularly bashing the show for becoming far too vulgar, as many see it. Where once the questions may have been innocent, a lot of them nowadays are raunchy, and lewd-leaning.
Of course, there’s a formula to all of this. The more outrageous a scene is on the set of Family Feud, the more likely it is that it will become a viral clip on social media. This can potentially generate millions of plays, and, ultimately, more money. Recently, even more fans came out of the woodwork with negative things to say about the show.
- One person said: “Today, IMO, the show is unwatchable as at least two main game questions are at best risqué and families getting a dollar a point for their main game score was long gone by then (and teams that were shut out were usually given $100 as a house minimum in the [Richard] Dawson era).”
- Another person said: “I feel ya. Family Feud was amusing and would have the occasional contestant blurt out the most outrageous answer nearly 15 years ago.”
Is Family Feud Host Steve Harvey To Blame?
While most fans agree that Steve Harvey’s reactions on the show are clearly forced/exaggerated for effect, viewers agree that he is the one bright spot that continues to keep a good chunk of the viewership tuning in.
Fans recently criticized Harvey’s “contrived and obvious” behavior to generate a reaction from the audience. Some even called out his “thousand-yard stare into the camera” whenever a participant says something risqué.
More than anything, some Family Feud watchers even feel bad for Steve Harvey, that he has to perform in this manner just to get a laugh. However, despite the noticeably raunchy turn the show has taken, Steve Harvey seems to be the one thing that keeps some viewers coming back.
