A new documentary about Gary Coleman’s life and death is coming out. Peacock will release Gary, a documentary exploring his rise to fame, the dark sides of his life, and his eventual death in 2010 at 42. The documentary will also speak to various people close to him throughout his life.

What Is The Gary Coleman Documentary About?
Gary is a 90-minute documentary film about the life and death of former sitcom star Gary Coleman. The movie’s logline states it is about the “fascinating life and mysterious death of beloved child actor Gary Coleman” (via PEOPLE). Most fans know Coleman from his breakout role as Arnold on Diff’rent Strokes.
The documentary features several interviews with people who knew Gary throughout his life. This includes his Diff’rent Strokes co-star Todd Bridges, who played Arnold’s brother Willis. On Diff’rent Strokes, after their mom dies, the two are taken in by a wealthy businessman (Conrad Bain) and his daughter, Kimberly (Dana Plato). Plato is also dead, having died in 1999 at 34. Bain died in 2013 at 89, making Bridges the only survivor from the main cast.
Also included in the interviews on Gary are former managers, his estranged parents, and his ex-wife, Shannon Price. The two were married for only one year (2007-2008), but she remained his “partner” until he died in 2010.
The documentary even shows the theories and rumors surrounding his death in 2010. The teaser plays the 9-1-1 call from Price and speculates about his death. “People think that I did this. Because I’m the ex-wife, I’m the evil person, right?” Price said in the trailer.

Gary premieres on the streaming service Peacock on Thursday, August 29. Fans can stream the documentary any time after that to learn more about the amazing and tragic life of Gary Coleman.
Bridges says in the trailer that Coleman was a “true star,” and others called him “groundbreaking,” revealing how much the audience loved him. However, there are also archive clips of Gary in interviews where he admits he would have gotten out of the Hollywood lifestyle if he had known how it would have turned out.
The documentary also touches on how his parents and business advisors stole over $700,000 from him. Added to that fact is that his manager, Dion Mial, said, “His life was fraught with disappointments. From 1985 until his death, he lived with not a single kidney.”
Gary Coleman died in 2010 from a brain hemorrhage at 42. He had also had a seizure and transplants throughout his life. It was his kidney problems that stunted his growth. He was only 4’8″.
