When Will Matthew McConaughey Yellowstone Series Come Out?

What happened to the Yellowstone spinoff 2024 starring Matthew McConaughey? Back in November 2023, Deadline reported that this new Taylor Sheridan series would continue the saga. They also shared that it had not been confirmed yet, but they had previously reported that “Matthew McConaughey is expected to headline 2024, joined by actors from the original series.”

No names were attached to this spinoff series. However, one guy who was not going to return was Kevin Costner. Seventeen months ago, there were reports from the Yellowstone set that Kevin Costner was not available to film Season 5, Part 2. This led to accusations thrown back and forth. Costner wanted to film Horizon. Moreover, Sheridan didn’t have scripts ready.

Understandably, Costner found it hard to make an epic four-part movie saga when you didn’t know what was going on at your day job.

That is when the rumors about a new spinoff were reported. It was easy to sway unhappy fans who were upset that the series would end when they had a bright shiny star for the spinoff. Also, there were related rumors were that Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Luke Grimes would also be in this series. There could even be more alum joining in. But that never materialized either.

The OG Spinoff Is Dead In The Water

Now that Paramount formally announced the new Yellowstone spinoff, it seemed natural that they would announce some actors. However, that never happened.

By February 2024, a year after the original rumors that Matthew McConaughey was going to headline a bigger, better Yellowstone spinoff, things changed. Matthew Belloni from Puck, the writer who reported the original rumors, had some really bad news for fans of the Dutton family.

Matthew McConaughey is still the top choice to star, but reports of his commitment to the project are overstated; he won’t sign on until he sees a script, which hasn’t happened yet, per his agent.

Coincidentally, Kevin Costner was not the only one who wanted to see scripts. Taylor Sheridan, who is spinning about a dozen shows for Paramount, was likely working on his other projects and didn’t put pen to paper.

This was not the only issue. There were also rumors that the OG trio were asking for too much money. Since this report, nothing has happened. It looks like this spinoff series 2024 never got a chance.

As of now, no one is talking about the Matthew McConaughey Yellowstone spinoff that doesn’t seem like it was going to happen.

Fans, are you disappointed?
