Fellow Survivor Cast Member Confirms Kim Johnson’s Death
Ethan Zohn, who she befriended on the show, broke the news of Kim’s death on Monday, July 29. He shared a video on Instagram highlighting some of Kim’s best moments on Survivor.
In the caption, he wrote, “Rest in peace Kim Johnson. It was a blessing to call you my friend and a privilege to experience the final tribal council with you. I will forever have that planters punch in your honor!”
Survivor fans will remember Kim Johnson from Season 3. She finished as the runner-up, with Ethan barely edging her out for the win. Kim still holds the record for the oldest contestant to win the Final Immunity Challenge. At the time that Season 3 was filmed, she was 56 years old.
Many people enjoyed watching the Cleveland, Ohio native on the show. Although she was not the Season 3 winner, Kim has gone down as a fan favorite in the history of Survivor.
Fans flocked to the comment section on Ethan’s post to leave messages for Kim.
“My favorite duo, I’ve always loved you for deciding to take her knowing she would most likely win,” one person wrote. “It showed your true character and love and it was an inspiration so I’ve never forgotten.”
Another fan chimed in, “RIP, she was and always will be my favorite player.” A third commented, “One of the OG Mamas, UTR queens and just one of my faves RIP Mama Kim.”

Mike Bloom also publicly commented on Kim’s death, remarking on some of the milestones she met during her time on Survivor. Even though she didn’t win, she still left Africa $100,000 richer and she met at least one lifelong friend.
In the comments, people talked about how selfless Kim Johnson was when she appeared on the show. When Ethan was eventually unveiled as the winner, you could tell that Kim was genuinely happy for him, one person pointed out.
They continued, “To know you’re going to lose no matter what and pick who you think deserved it more… that takes a truly good person.”

Long-time host Jeff Probst has opened up about the future of Survivor recently. While the show is currently on hiatus at CBS, an all-new season is expected to premiere on Wednesday, September 18.
Survivor 47 will take place in Fiji. There are already plans for seasons 48, 49, and 50 as well. Jeff recently spoke about the possibility of fan-favorite competitors returning for the 50th season of the hit reality show.
