Ariana Madix & Katie Maloney Not Paying Staff Livable Wages?
Are Vanderpump Rules stars Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney not paying their staff livable wages? They opened their sandwich shop, Something About Her, back in May and it has been an instant success. Yet, it appears that some followers believe the employees should be paid more than they are being offered. Keep reading for more details.
Ariana Madix & Katie Maloney Not Paying Staff Livable Wages?
It was a long time coming, an idea spawned in Season 9 of Vanderpump Rules by Katie Maloney who always wanted a sweet shop of her own. She thought that she and her then-husband, Tom Schwartz would take on this venture together. Yet, he was too invested in Schwartz & Sandy’s so she brought it up to Ariana Madix. At the time, she was looking for a new project and loved this idea so Something About Her was born. Through leaps, and bounds, permits, renovations, and hurdles, the ladies finally opened their dream shop to rave reviews.
Bravolebs, celebrities, and Andy Cohen have stopped in to show some love to them and their sandwiches. Recently, Seth Rogan popped up at the eatery which is proving to be a smash hit. Both ladies have been at the shop since Ariana returned from filming Love Island USA in Fiji. She is about to head back to NYC for another stint on Broadway but it seems they are looking for more employees to keep up with the demand. A recent job posting was shared on Reddit for a Prep Team Member.
They are starting pay at $21/hour but some fans felt that Katie Maloney and Ariana Madix were not paying a livable wage. Now, the minimum wage in California is $16. Yet, fast food employees earn $20 so they are just starting at $21. Is this acceptable?
- $21/hour in LA I don’t think you could live in a one bedroom apartment within an hour of this place lmfao
- And part time hours so they do not have to offer benefits. 🙃
- I live in a pretty low cost of living city in SC and a local bakery just posted a prep job paying 22/hr.
Is There More To The Job?
Some fans wondered if there was more to the job such as tips. There is the perk of working with and for two Bravolebs and the opportunity to see and meet random celebs at any time. So, maybe that could lure some potential employees in. Others noted that $21/hour does not cut it for how insanely busy the shop is and will continue to be. One follower did point this out which is a very fair point:
- They’re only open 10-4, five days a week, I don’t think this is intended to be a full time career for most applicants. It would be great for extra income though.
By now, there have been an obscene amount of applicants so Katie Maloney and Ariana Madix have their work cut out for them. Hopefully, they have some amazing incentives on top of just the pay to keep staff interested. Do you think it is too low pay for someone living in California? Or, is the experience alone worth it? Um for working at a sandwich shop
That’s a lot. Preschool teachers start at that wage with college behind them. California wages are ridiculous and biased.
