‘NCIS: Hawaii’ Showrunners Reveal Whether LL Cool J Would Have Stayed On CBS Series
When NCIS: Los Angeles was canceled, LL Cool J joined NCIS: Hawaii, reprising his character Sam Hanna. How did this all transpire? Moreover, would Sam Hanna have been part of Season 4, had the CBS military procedural series not been canceled?
The series showrunners have spoken about the series for the first time since it was canceled. Here are some of the surprising things that they had to share.
NCIS Showrunners Discuss Whether LL Cool J’s Sam Hanna Would Have Stayed On CBS Series
On Friday, TV Line published an interview with the three NCIS: Hawaii co-showrunners, Jan Nash, Christopher Silver, and Matt Bosack. They talked about a cornucopia of things pertaining to the cancelation of the CBS spinoff series. That includes LL Cool J, who joined this spinoff after his spinoff was canceled.
Firstly, they revealed how they got him on the series. First, the network suggested that Sam Hanna be part of their series. “The idea of Sam joining our show was pitched by the studio/network after LA ended. We were both fully on-board, both because Sam was such a great character, but also because LL Cool J is a wonderful human.”
Next, they shared their intended plans for Sam Hanna after they saw that the addition added something to the series. “The chemistry he shared with our amazing lead, Vanessa Lachey, was so compelling, we had hoped to keep it going for many seasons to come.”
When LL Cool J was first announced, he was cast as a recurring character in the franchise. However, due to the shorted Season 3, he was in every episode. Fans had surmised that perhaps if this had been a normal 22-episode season, he may have wound up in half. But, this recent revelation seems to indicated that LL Cool J was now a regular member of the cast.
Moreover, they intended on keeping him in the storyline for seasons to come.
