‘Mama June’ Michael Cardwell Calls Sugar Bear To Testify
Michael Cardwell is coming out swinging in the custody battle with Mama June Shannon. Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell’s ex is battling June for custody of her oldest granddaughter, Kaitlyn. Now, it has been revealed that Michael plans to call Mama June’s ex, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, to testify against her in court. Will this hurt or help Michael’s case? What Could Sugar Bear Bring Up In Court?
Sugar Bear and Mama June had a nasty breakup in 2014. However, he continued to appear on television alongside June and his daughter, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, for several years. He was also Anna Cardwell’s stepfather and lived with Anna when she was a child.
That being said, Sugar Bear and Mama June had already gone their separate ways before Anna married Michael Cardwell in 2015, but Anna stayed close to him. In fact, Chickadee even moved in with Sugar Bear during her split from Michael in 2017. At that time, Anna was not speaking to June.
Now that he’s being called to the stand to testify against June, it is likely that Sugar Bear will probably bring this up.
“It’s likely that Sugar Bear will testify about the long periods of estrangement between Anna and June, and Anna’s reasons behind not wanting to be around her mother or have Kaitlyn around her,” a source revealed.
Michael Cardwell has stated that he doesn’t feel like Mama June will be a good caregiver for Kaitlyn. In his filing, he pointed out that Kaitlyn was only allowed to see June after Anna got sick.
“Anna has been raised by her maternal grandmother in Griffin, Georgia since she was approximately eight years old and only returned to the home of June Shannon when she was 17,” Michael stated in court documents.
“Anna has had a very sordid relationship with her mother throughout her life and went various periods of time without speaking to her,” Michael continued. “Likewise, June’s presence in [Kaitlyn’s] life has been inconsistent.”
As an adult, Anna and June’s relationship became even more strained. Mama June became romantically involved with Mark McDaniel after he was released from prison for molesting Anna. The entire ordeal led TLC to drop Here Comes Honey Boo Boo from their lineup in 2014.
Given their previous relationship, there is no doubt Sugar Bear will bring up the estrangement between Anna and June, as well as other problematic things about their relationship.
Mama June Calls Eldridge & More To The Stand
In addition to calling Sugar Bear to testify, Michael Cardwell plans to call a counselor up to the stand as well as his fiance, London Smith. His fiance helped take care of Kaitlyn when she would come with Kylee to visit their home. London recently posted a letter to Kaitlyn on Instagram, sharing how much she, Kylee, and Michael all miss her.
Kylee was automatically placed with Michael when Anna died because he was her biological father. Kaitlyn’s bio dad is unknown.
Mama June has also filed her witness list with the court for the custody hearing. She plans to have her witnesses testify about things Kaitlyn has said outside of the courtroom in the past.
June is planning to call Eldridge Toney, Kaitlyn’s school principal, and Michael’s boss to the stand. She will also call someone from the center where she receives her drug tests to share the results of drug tests from January 2023 until now.
Michael, Mama June, and all of their witnesses are due to appear in court today. It is not known if Kaitlyn will also be attending the hearing. She previously submitted an affidavit to the court stating that she wishes to live with June. She also stated in the affidavit that she doesn’t want visitation with Michael.
