The View fans have been worried about Whoopi Goldberg this week. She has been missing from the regular panel on the talk show for several days, and viewers want to know if she’s okay. There has been some news shared about the Sister Act star’s health that clarifies why she’s been gone. Continue reading to find out what is going on.

Joy Behar Addresses Whoopi Goldberg’s Absence On The View

Apparently, Whoopi Goldberg is out because she’s been feeling a bit sick. She tested positive for COVID-19 and has been staying home trying to recoup.

On Thursday, July 11, Whoopi’s fellow hosts on The View greeted the live audience and viewers at home as they normally would. Then, Joy Behar addressed The View moderator’s absence.

“You might have noticed Whoopi is not here,” Joy acknowledged. “Whoopi has tested positive for COVID. You know, it’s going around still. So you have to be careful!”

Sunny Hostin added that Whoopi caught the virus as the “summer surge” picked up.

Whoopi Goldberg was present on The View earlier in the week, and she also appeared on Thursday’s broadcast later in the show. There was a pre-taped interview with Antony Starr from The Boys.

Whoopi Has Been Busy Promoting Her New Book

This isn’t Whoopi’s first experience with COVID-19. The 68-year-old talk show host has contracted COVID several times, forcing her to miss previous tapings of The View. She reportedly had it once in early 2022, then again in November of that year, and once in September 2023.

Whoopi has been making her rounds doing press for her book, Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me. Earlier in the week, she appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers and spoke about what she did with her mother’s ashes, something she discusses in her autobiography.

The View moderator has called the new book a “love letter” to the people who raised her. Her mom, Emma Harris, died in 2010 after having a stroke. Whoopi’s brother, Clyde, also passed away in 2015 after suffering from a brain aneurysm.

With her COVID diagnosis, it is not clear when she’ll pick her press appearances up again. It is also not known when she will make her way back to her hosting duties on The View. However, she is likely to be out for the next few episodes so that she can limit the spread of the virus and avoid getting her colleagues sick.

Hopefully, she’ll be back to her spot at the table with her co-stars soon!

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. EST on ABC.
