‘Family Feud’ Fans Blast Show For Being ‘Cheap’
Family Feud is all about winning the big money in the end. However, fans recently blasted the popular game show for being “cheap.” So, what are viewers saying about the family favorite game show hosted by Steve Harvey?
Family Feud Is All About Making It To The Fast Money Round
As longtime Family Feud watchers know, the show starts every new episode with two families. Each family battles it out to beat the other family by answering survey questions read by the one and only Steve Harvey. If they get enough points and outlast the other family, one lucky brood makes it to the Fast Money round.
Of course, the other thing that longtime Family Feud fans know is that just making it to the Fast Money round does not guarantee a Family Feud payday. Families still have one more hurdle they must overcome if they want to leave the set with a big check.
Fans Slam Popular Game Show For Being Cheap, Why?
One aspect of Family Feud that viewers drew attention to recently is the fact that the money round on the show doesn’t come with a whole lot of money in the end. Even if a family wins, they net $20k. However, there are a few caveats that come along with this.
For one, that $20k check will be taxed. So, the actual winnings will be less once all of that is taken out. There’s also the fact that the prize money has to be split between family members, which will also make the take-home amount for each person even less by the time it’s chopped up evenly.
With all of these factors playing into it, Family Feud fans recently slammed the family game show for being cheap. So, what did viewers have to say?
Family Feud: Fast Money Prize Has Not Been Adjusted For Inflation, Fans React
The way many Family Feud fans see it, the game show needs to increase the Fast Money amount. When the game show debuted in 1976, the cash prize was $5k. Essentially, in nearly 50 years, the prize money has only gone up another $15k. The way many watchers see it, this needs to change, with some blasting the show for being “cheap.”
- Recently, one watcher said: “I agree that it needs to increase.”
- Another commenter said recently: “I thought of that a long time ago. 20k sounds good, but that divides into 4k per member. Additionally, after taxes, it is only about $2,500. Not exactly life-changing money. It needs to be at least 50k to make it more worthwhile.”
When you consider that the show pays Steve Harvey roughly $10M a year to host, they may want to consider throwing families a bone and upping the prize money.
