Why Fans Think ‘Bachelor’ Franchise Is Dying
The Bachelor franchise has held a firm grip on America’s television screens for over two decades. Its over-the-top dates, catty contestants, and promises of fairytale romance made it a guilty pleasure for millions. Yet, as the franchise enters another year, fans are growing restless.
Ratings are slipping, and criticism of the show’s outdated formula and handling of diversity issues is on the rise. Longtime viewers are tuning out, and the show’s attempts to adapt and modernize are falling flat. Is the Bachelor bubble finally about to burst? Keep reading to see why fans think the once-beloved franchise is on its last rose.
Why Fans Think Bachelor Franchise Is Dying
After more than 20 years, it’s hard to produce fresh content to keep viewers interested. One Bachelor Nation fan took to Reddit to discuss whether the franchise is on its last legs.
“If you look at the ratings/viewership of every season it’s been consistently going down. The last leads they’ve been choosing have been very cookie cutter and boring (Charity, Zach, Clayton, etc) and people are getting sick of seeing the EXACT same storylines each season.”
Many longtime fans of the franchise have been complaining for years about how each season is the same. Another issue is the fact that most of the couples who get engaged break up within a year or less. Or in Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s case, three months after getting married.
Check out some of the comments agreeing that the franchise is dying:
- Definitely dying. If you think about the Ben Higgins JoJo days – it has declined so much since then and become almost a laughing stock. Like no one takes it seriously anymore – almost not even the contestants I feel like.
- Agreed. Personality is everything. Had Maria opted to stay on, I’m thinking she would have brought in the viewers.
- this franchise, in comparison to other reality tv dating shows, is at the bottom of the tier by a lot. storylines are boring, couples barely make it to 1 yr together, if at all, the casting choices are not interesting, I just don’t feel like it has me ~wanting~ to watch it
- Reality Steve said Paradise numbers last season were so bad they decided to wait another year to have a bigger pool of people to choose from for the cast next time
- The problem is that the show is still catering to middle aged white women in middle America.
- Influencers and wanna be actors have ruined it. No one is really looking for love, just fame. They need to attempt to cast people with normal jobs.
Is There Hope For The Future?
Despite some viewers thinking the show is coming to an end, ABC has faith in the franchise. They renewed Bachelor for another season. Season 29 will air in early 2025. One Bravo star is already petitioning to be the lead.
One Redditor mentioned Bachelor In Paradise in the comments. It’s true that the spinoff won’t air this year. But the network just revealed that it will return next year for Season 10.
