Days of Our Lives fans are afraid the show is getting canceled after they noticed the similarities between the Peacock show and another defunct soap. Keep reading for what we know about the future of the long-running daytime drama.

Why Days Of Our Lives Fans Fear Show Is Getting Canceled

Next year marks the 60th anniversary of daytime sudser Days of Our Lives. It premiered on NBC in November 1965. The show has been the subject of cancellation rumors at least once a year for the last five to ten years. It is currently one of only four soaps remaining. Well, five if you count Body & Soul, the soap within a soap on DOOL.

Abe (James Reynolds) got hooked on the fictional soap opera last summer when he was held captive. Body & Soul featured several stars of DOOL. Deidre Hall, Mary Beth Evans, Lauren Koslow and more, appeared as campy characters in the fake soap opera.

Days of Our Lives recently brought Body & Soul back with a storyline of its cancellation, prompting Kate (Lauren Koslow) to suggest teaming up with Abe to revive it.

What’s all that got to do with the real soap opera? Longtime soap fans may recall a similar storyline on ABC’s One Life To Live before it was canceled. Soaps.com recalls that OLTL had its own soap within a soap, Fraternity Row. But the fictional soap was canceled as a way to send off the real OLTL.

What We Know About Show’s Future

Some soap fans expressed concern on social media that canceling Body & Soul could foreshadow Days of Our Lives suffering the same fate. The show moved from NBC to Peacock in 2022, which possibly affected its ratings.

But DOOL seems to be going strong at the moment. The show plans to pay tribute to late actor Bill Hayes later this year with a star-studded send off to Doug Williams, the character Hayes played for more than 50 years.

Prime time actress AnnaLynne McCord just made her soap debut on Days of Our Lives last month. She previously starred in the CW 90210 reboot. Furthermore, the Peacock soap has been renewed through 2025 and will likely get another multiple-season renewal.

Body & Soul might be canceled, but nothing indicates that Days of Our Lives will be leaving screens any time soon.

What do you think about the soap within a soap becoming a major plot point on Days? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
