Becca Kufrin Responds To Bachelor Nation Hate Over Son’s Name
It was a long journey to marriage for Bachelor Nation star Becca Kufrin. She finally met her match on Bachelor In Paradise. She welcomed her first child with then-fiance Thomas Jacobs in 2023. It turns out that fans of the franchise had a lot to say about the name the couple gave their son.

Becca Kufrin got engaged on both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette but neither engagement ended in a walk down the aisle. Her chance finally came after meeting Thomas Jacobs on Season 7 of Bachelor In Paradise but that relationship was nontraditional, even by Bachelor Nation standards.
The couple broke up on the show, but reunited after filming. They got engaged in 2022 when Becca refused to conform to gender norms and proposed to Thomas. He also proposed to her a few months later.
But before they could tie the knot, they welcomed a child together. Benson “Benny” Lee Jacobs Kufrin was born in September 2023. The BIP alums married a month later in a simple courthouse wedding.
She shared at the time of her son’s birth that the name “Benson” meant a lot to her. It was the name of the town where her father grew up. Despite the sentimental meaning, some fans of the franchise didn’t like the name. And they weren’t shy about making their opinions known.
In a recent chat with TODAY, Becca Kufrin revealed that it wasn’t just the name “Benson” that some people disagreed with. Some thought the baby’s last name should have been “Kufrin Jacobs” instead of “Jacobs Kufrin.”
“I knew people would have their opinions. And that didn’t change what we wanted to do anyway.”
That’s Not All Fans Vent About
The reality stars made the decision early on to avoid showing their son’s full face on social media. When they do share photos of Benny, he’s either turned away from the camera or has a hat on covering his face.
A lot of Bachelor Nation fans disagree with this decision or don’t see the point. However, Becca explained the reasoning.
“We’re trying to keep him away from that world and not blast his face all over in a public setting. I think that’s kind of protecting him in a way right now from people’s comments and criticisms and opinions.”
Another Bachelor Nation star, Nick Viall, recently shared his thoughts on his daughter being a reality TV show star when she’s older. Becca Kufrin revealed her own reservations about the idea, saying she would warn her son, “There’s a lot more behind the scenes that goes on that you don’t know.”
But Benny Jacobs Kufrin is only nine months old, and has a lot of growing up to do before he’s ready for reality TV.
