Dexter Is One Of The Most Popular Shows Of All Time
The original Dexter show premiered all the way back in 2006. It featured Michael C. Hall as the title character. Dexter was a forensic analyst specializing in blood splatter analysis by day. This made him the ideal person to know how to get away with murder as a twisted vigilante who also collected blood slide trophies.
Since premiering in 2006, Dexter fast became one of the greatest shows ever made. The fact that, nearly 20 years later, they are still continuing the story, proves that there is genuine interest in exploring the character, even so many years down the line.
Prequel Series Original Sin Will Delve Deeper
The Dexter prequel series, Original Sin, takes things back to Miami in 1991. The series follows a young Dexter as he makes the change from student to vigilante serial killer. As with the nature of prequels, this will give longtime fans of the character a chance to delve deeper into his backstory.
How Dexter became the way he did will certainly be fleshed out in this new series, and fans have plenty of reason to celebrate. The reception for Dexter: New Blood was positive. So, it makes sense for Paramount Plus to want to bring more life to the character and expand the universe even more.

The hype for the Dexter prequel series just got another boost with the announcement that Sarah Michelle Gellar is joining the cast. Longtime fans will remember her iconic portrayal of Buffy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
This time around, Sarah Michelle Gellar is signing onto Original Sin in a guest-starring role as Dexter’s new boss. Gellar now joins an already confirmed prequel series cast that features Christian Slater and Patrick Dempsey. So, things are certainly coming together in a big way.

Because this Dexter prequel series is set in the early 90s, 15 years before the original show picks up, there was a genuine effort to cast stars from the 90s who are still popular today. In this aspect, casting directors certainly achieved this goal.
This new entry into the Dexter universe will surely be something else for longtime fans to dig into and enjoy. According to EW, the prequel is currently in production. So, when a release date is announced will certainly be worth keeping an eye on.
