‘Bachelorette’ Fans Concerned Katie Thurston Revealed Recent Sexual Assault
Bachelorette Katie Thurston took to social media to speak out about a recent sexual assault and the justice system. What happened?
Katie Thurston Speaks Out About Recent Sexual Assault
Bachelorette star Katie Thurston created a Facebook support group in 2021 for victims of sexual assault. C.A.L.M. (Creating a Lovely Masterpiece) is a private group where members can share their stories with an option to post anonymously.
Thurston revealed on her season of the ABC show that she was the victim of sexual assault a decade prior.
Unfortunately, the aspiring stand-up comic recently experienced another sexual assault. She took to her social media on Friday, June 28, to speak out about how the justice system failed her.
She shared a snapshot of an unidentified man, presumably the person who assaulted her. “It took 7 months for the San Diego Justice to let me down as a rape victim,” she wrote on the photo.
She didn’t share more details about the assault or how the courts let her down. However, it’s possible she pressed charges, and the court dismissed them or didn’t pursue a trial.
The reality star will likely share more details with her devoted social media followers. She recently shared that she’s in a new relationship, and hopefully, she can find support from her boyfriend.
Fans Rally Around Her, Show Concern
Bachelor Nation fans took to Reddit to send love to Katie Thurston amid the heartbreaking news of her assault. Many shared their own experiences with sexual violence and/or the justice system.
- god, this is so terrible. i found out i wouldn’t receive justice in 2020 and i still have moments where it hits me all over again. i hope she has a good support system <3
- As someone who agreed to stand trial in September against the massage therapist that assaulted me, this is absolutely the worst case scenario I’m bracing myself for. I’m so sorry she didn’t receive justice.
- I know many women who have been sexually assaulted or raped. Only a few were able to report. None of them got justice. None. Even when it was obvious or witnessed. To come forward and report and pursue charges is so brave, knowing what we all know. Sending her love.
- I remember awhile ago she said she was taking a step back and I wonder if this is why. My heart breaks for her. I hope she’s surrounding herself with people that will uplift her during this time!
- i’m so sorry to see this. i didn’t report either of the men who assaulted me – she was so brave to press charges and go through this process. i hope she has her people around her for support and takes care of herself this weekend
- The bear. Every. Damn. Time.
