‘Y&R’ Kristoff St. John Documentary Reveals Assault & Heartbreaking Past
Five years have passed since The Young and the Restless star Kristoff Sr. John died. While his fans and friends still miss him to this day, a new documentary will shine a light on his troubled life. This includes a look at his childhood trauma and how that shaped him as an adult.
Here is a look at what you can expect in the upcoming documentary movie Kristoff.
New Documentary Coming Based On Kristoff St. John
Most fans know Kristoff St. John from his time on The Young and the Restless. He played Neil Winters on the soap opera from 1991 until his death in 2019, a total of 28 years. During his time on the popular soap opera, he won two Daytime Emmy Awards and received 11 nominations.
However, there was much more to the actor’s life than his soap opera character. The documentary Kristoff will take fans into the life of St. John, which includes surviving childhood abuse and becoming a major television star.
Bobby Razak directed the documentary, which will be released in 2025. Razak previously directed four episodes of the TV series Reflections and gained acclaim for his documentary Fallen Soldier in 2013 about former boxing champion Gerald McClellan.
The trailer (which PEOPLE has exclusively) shows St. John’s rise to success as a child actor. It also details his alleged sexual assault at the hands of the Indian guru Sathya Sai Baba (others have also leveled accusations of sexual abuse against the man). Also touched on is the death by suicide of his son Julian in 2014.
“As a child actor, he never really got to know who he was or to learn how to be a normal child,” his ex-wife Mia said to start the documentary.
Documentary To Also Show Kristoff St. John’s Struggles
While the documentary focuses on his life as a child star (he appeared on Happy Days, Wonder Woman, The Bad News Bears, and The Cosby Show, among others), his struggles as an adult also take center stage.
His ex-wife Mia said that he became successful on television, but he then started a drug addiction. “After Sai Baba and the sexual abuse, he started with crack. It became an obsession,” Mia said. There was footage showing St. John drinking and lighting a pipe. Mia also said that Kristoff was bipolar.
Mia St. John (a former professional boxer) met Kristoff at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. “I stayed sober throughout the entire relationship,” she said. “Kristoff continued off and on throughout his life.”
Mia also said that Julian began to deal with similar mental health issues as his father and that Julian’s suicide devastated Kristoff. “He [Kristoff] couldn’t find a way out. He couldn’t save himself. Nobody could save him,” Mia said in the trailer.
