‘NCIS’ Season 22 Might Be ‘Bittersweet’ For Jessica Knight
When NCIS Season 22 comes, things might not go well for Jessica Knight. This comes straight from co-showrunner Steve D. Binder, who said that the next season should be “bittersweet” for Katrina Law’s character on the long-running police procedural.
Here is what Binder said about the fan-favorite character and what it could mean for Season 22.
Jessica Knight’s NCIS Season 22 To Be ‘Bittersweet’
In a recent interview, NCIS co-showrunner Steve D. Binder was talking about Season 22. He was asked about the season finale, which made Jessica Knight’s future look questionable. What he had to say didn’t ease anyone’s tension about the show’s star.
During the NCIS Season 21 finale, Special Agent Jessica Knight accepted the position of Chief React Training Officer at Camp Pendleton. She decided this career move was more important than her spot on the team and her relationship with her boyfriend, Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen).
This makes it look like the show will lose Law as a full-time actor in Season 22. However, fans will have to wait to see what happens. Remember, in the past, characters ended a season with significant changes, but things eventually returned to the status quo. However, other times, characters left for good.
“Well, you know, we’ve set something up there,” Binder said (via TVLine). “And I will point you toward our track record where ‘You never know.’” He mentioned people possibly leaving but then returning and then people actually leaving (like Jethro Leroy Gibbs).
Binder said it was the same story as Tony DiNozzo. What would make a character actually leave the team? Is this enough to really make Jessica go?

Binder said that it is all about Jessica’s story and her possible departure. Jessica has talked about career plans with her father. She also had a relationship with Jimmy, where things suddenly didn’t look so solid. It makes it easier to say goodbye. But will she?
“We think the audience will be satisfied with where they see this go,” Binder said. “Sometimes that satisfaction is bittersweet, and sometimes it’s just pure joy. You’ll have to wait to find out which one it’s going to be.”
The story saw Jessica’s dad remind her that she has big career goals, which might not include Palmer. Now, with the job offer, she had a decision to make, and thanks to her dad’s pressure, she made the jump. Law said she wants “what’s best for the characters, each individually in the long run. And we don’t know what that is yet.”
