Fitness guru Richard Simmons is set for an interactive Broadway show after years away from the spotlight. Known for his iconic workout videos, Sweatin’ to the Oldies, he has made brief appearances in recent years. Yet, he has mostly stayed out of the spotlight but now, he has a new and exciting venture. Fitness Guru Richard Simmons Set For Interactive Broadway Show
For years, workout fanatics knew Richard Simmons as he was the king of fitness videos. He was the man with the big hair, tank top, and super short shorts. Yet, he helped so many people of all shapes, sizes, and ages achieve their fitness goals. This was all sparked by his own weight struggles and he ended up turning that into something positive. Unfortunately, as the years went on, he stopped going out and theories began as to where he was. It was alleged that he was being held hostage but welfare checks were done and he was fine.
Recently, a biopic on his life was discussed and then it was confirmed, with Pauly Shore in the lead role. However, Simmons shared that he did not approve of the movie and was looking for other opportunities:
“I just read that a man that I don’t know is writing my bio pic starring Pauly Shore. I do not approve this movie. I am in talks with major studios to create my own bio pic with some help. Wait for this movie.”
That wrecked Pauly Shore who had this to say:
“Richard, how do you not approve of this movie? I mean, really, who’s better to play you in a movie than ME? I’m perfect. Everyone already thinks I’m you. We’re the same. Beautiful, inside and out. Hellll yea!”
As it turns out, something other than a movie is on the horizon, according to Page Six. An interactive Broadway play is in the works, Simmons shared:
“I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who is an attorney and manages famous artists in music. She wants to do an interactive Broadway show about my life.”
So, how will it be interactive, one might wonder? As the play goes on, audience members can then take part in workout routines that they may have seen in some of Richard Simmons’ videos throughout the decades. This has been a dream of Simmons as he loves Broadway so much. Therefore, he is pouring out all of his ideas for this play.
Preparation Underway
To get himself and his fans amped for this production, Richard Simmons has been sharing his favorite Broadway memories on his social media. He is clearly an enthusiast and is paying homage to some of the greatest musicals and plays to ever exist. It seems he has hopes that he will follow in their footsteps someday. As of now, no date for release has been announced as it is just in the developmental stage.
