Why Isn’t ‘Suits’ Spinoff Airing This Fall On NBC?
A Suits spinoff is coming to NBC, but it didn’t appear on the Fall 2024 schedule. It has some fans worried, and with good reason. There is a chance that the spinoff might not air at all, but that will have to wait until NBC makes its official announcement.
Here is all the recent news and what you need to know about the Suits spinoff and its place on NBC.
Is Suits Spinoff Still Coming To NBC?
A new Suits spinoff series was supposed to be coming to NBC. However, when the network released its Fall 2024 schedule, it was nowhere to be seen. The series is titled Suits: L.A., but there is one problem with the new series. It hasn’t officially received a series order from NBC. The network released the Fall 2024 schedule and still hasn’t revealed the news on the hopeful spinoff series.
The decision to order the season won’t come until June, either. There is a planned screening of the pilot episode for executives in June, and that is when they will decide on its fate. The show stars Stephen Amell as Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who “has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles” (via TV Line). The firm specializes in criminal and entertainment law.
The series will follow him as his new firm is at a “crisis point.” To survive, he has to take on a role he has “held in contempt” his entire career. As with the original series, the show will deal with the personal and professional lives of the people working for Ted, as loyalties are tested.
Joining Stephen Ammell (Arrow) in the cast is Josh McDermitt (Eugene from The Walking Dead). He will play Stuart Lane, an “energetic, powerful, focused and self-absorbed” attorney who helped Ted build the firm 15 years ago. Also cast are Lex Scott Davis (The L Word) and Bryan Greenberg (One Tree Hill).
What Is On The NBC Schedule This Fall?
It does seem strange not to make a decision yet. The Suits spinoff was started because of the massive Netflix streaming numbers for the original series. However, the network might want to wait to see if the new cast can bring the same audience as the original. If it is ordered, it will probably be a late-season replacement or a January start during midseason.
Without the Suits spinoff series, NBC has released its full Fall 2024 schedule. Along with the returning drama and reality shows are a mix of new releases that NBC hopes fans will latch onto.
The three new series include medical drama Brilliant Minds, starring Zachary Quinto; medical comedy St. Denis Medical, with Wendi McLendon-Covey and David Alan Grier; and Reba McEntire‘s new sitcom, Happy’s Place. It also seems that NBC is allocating certain nights for certain themes.
Tuesday night will be a “workplace” comedy block, with St. Denis Medical and Night Court, followed by the returning The Voice and The Irrational. On Friday night is a more family comedy block, with Happy’s Place and Lopez vs. Lopez, followed by Dateline NBC. Wednesdays will remain Chicago One night while Thursdays will remain Law & Order night. The one change is that Found will air that night and Law & Order: Organized Crime will move to Peacock.
