Bethenny Frankel Mourns Death Of Mother
RHONY alum Bethenny Frankel is mourning the death of her mother, Bernadette Birk on April 19th, 2024. Though once very estranged, the two had somewhat reconciled for the sake of Frankel’s daughter, Bryn. Now, Birk has passed and Frankel is sharing the story of what happened in those final hours. Bethenny Frankel Mourns Death Of Mother
RHONY viewers know that Bethenny Frankel and her mother, Bernadette Birk had a very strained relationship. Bethenny talked about being born on her mother’s twentieth birthday and the things she dealt with growing up. Bernadette had an eating disorder which made it hard for Bethenny to get close to Season 8 cast member Jules Wainstein. She also struggled with an ED but Bethenny had flashbacks to what she grew up surrounded by. So, it was an uphill battle. Additionally, there was a lot of abuse in her life and she was told by one of her former stepfathers that Bernadette never wanted to be a mother.
It did come to a point where she was ready to set up a meeting between her daughter, Bryn, and Bernadette. This was shown at one of the RHONY reunions and it seems that has played out. According to People, Bernadette Birk passed away on April 19th, 2024 at the age of 73, per her obituary. However, Bethenny paid tribute to her mother’s life via an Instagram post filled with photos and all of their rocky roads. She confirmed that her mother had lung cancer but that they did come together for Bryn and left her belongings to her granddaughter:
“We reconnected so my daughter could know and love her. She adored Bryn and they shared a love of art.”

Bethenny Frankel further noted she had a “sixth sense” that her mother had died:
I had a sixth sense she had passed. I had started to release some trauma, was dancing to the song “I’m alive” in her favorite designer Alaia dress as she was dying.”
There is a lot to unpack in her tribute to her mother. It is filled with love, turmoil, forgiveness, anger, passion, sadness, and gratitude.
The Love Is Strong
After Bethenny Frankel posted what had happened, immediately her comment section was flooded with love, condolences, and well wishes. Despite her campaign against Bravo, the community came out strong:
