The REAL Reason Patrick Mahomes Won’t Host ‘SNL’
It’s not at all uncommon for sports legends to host Saturday Night Live. After winning yet another Super Bowl at just 28 years old, many expected Kansas City star Patrick Mahomes to host the show.
However, the quarterback reportedly turned them down.
Why did Mahomes choose not to host SNL? Will he ever change his mind? Keep reading to get the scoop.
Patrick Mahomes Is Not Eager To Host SNL Anytime Soon
Several successful NFL players have hosted SNL in the past. Patrick Mahomes’ teammate Travis Kelce even recently hosted the show in March. Previous hosts include both Eli and Peyton Manning, J.J. Watt, and Tom Brady.
Saturday Night Live would love to have Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes as a host. However, the problem is his end. According to the NFL player himself, he doesn’t think it would be a good fit.
At least not yet, anyway.
Apparently, hosting SNL is a long-term goal for Patrick Mahomes. But in a new interview with TIME, he admitted he isn’t quite ready yet. After all, acting and comedy are quite different than playing football.
“I have a little bit of a fear with the teleprompter,” the 28-year-old confessed in the interview, citing a bad experience at the ESPYs from a few years back.
The opening Saturday Night Live monologue typically uses cue cards instead of teleprompters for the performance, but it’s all different and new for Mahomes.

Perhaps by the end of his football career, the quarterback will be ready to host SNL. And he does have a time frame in mind for ending his professional football career.
The Kansas City Chief Player Knows His Time In The NFL Is Limited
Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany have two children. As much as Mahomes loves football, he loves his family more. Right now, his children are young and he’s afraid of missing out on their lives. Their daughter Sterling Skye Mahomes is three years old while their son Patrick Lavon Mahomes III will be two in November.
“I’ve looked, if I played until Tom [Brady]’s age, my daughter would be 19, 20 years old. I would love to play that long. At the same time, I want to be there for my daughter. If I can do that, I’ll continue to play. But if I feel like it’s taking away from my family time, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to go,” Mahomes explained in the TIME interview.
