Gerry Turner, Theresa Nist Explain Reason Behind Split
Gerry Turner’s season of Golden Bachelor gave a lot of viewers hope that love is possible later in life. Many of the contestants were widows looking for love again. Gerry himself was a widower who lost his wife of over 40 years in 2017.
The 72-year-old Indiana native found love with New Jersey resident Theresa Nist, 70. He proposed during the season finale and they quickly wed just weeks later in a televised ceremony. However, they announced their divorce last week after three months of marriage.
As the couple navigated the challenges of merging two lives, disagreements likely played a role in driving them apart. Deciding where to settle down emerged as a particular point of contention, with each partner having strong ties to their respective hometowns.
Gerry Turner explained during the GMA interview why they decided to end their marriage. “We’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and — and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” he said.
Theresa Nist added that they did try to come to a compromise, but were unable to meet in the middle. She said, “We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at home after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision.”
The Golden Bachelor captivated audiences worldwide, with the romantic journey of Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist playing out in real-time on national television. But now that the couple announced their divorce fans have been dissecting the factors that led to the sudden split.
One theory that has gained traction is the possibility that financial issues played a pivotal role in the breakdown of their marriage.
Did Financial Issues Cause The Golden Bachelor Divorce?
Gerry Turner stepped into the limelight with an estimated net worth of $1.5 million. However, the financial picture painted during his time on the show may not have told the whole story. Fans and insiders have suggested that he may have misrepresented his financial situation to win over the contestants and viewers.
One Bachelor Nation fan took to Reddit to speculate how that may have played a role in the divorce. “My personal theory is that during that process, it became known to Theresa somehow that Gerry has financial issues she was unaware of. Buying a house requires the banks and all to dig up everything under the sun about you,” they alleged.
Other fans agreed money may have been an issue, but some claimed Theresa never wanted to move away from New Jersey.
So, did financial issues cause the Golden Bachelor divorce? The evidence points to a possibility. While love may be blind, it seems that financial realities cannot be so easily ignored.
