Gordon Ramsay’s Pub Taken Over, What Can Be Done?
One of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay‘s restaurants is in a bit of a pickle, according to new reports. The York & Albany recently closed down this year, but the Hell’s Kitchen star still holds the lease. If he wanted to do anything else with the space, he’s going to have an incredibly difficult time doing so.
Keep reading to get the scoop on the situation and see what Ramsay’s options are moving forward.
Squatters Take Over Gordon Ramsay’s London Pub
As per TMZ, Gordon Ramsay’s York & Albany pub and hotel in London is no longer under his control. In fact, it’s been overtaken by at least six squatters.
And sadly, there isn’t much that can currently be done about the situation. According to the publication, the British police say there’s nothing they can legally do about the squatters unless they commit a crime.
“The squatters that have been seen coming and going in recent days have certainly made the pub their own … boarding up windows, napping on couches inside and having their way with the building. They’ve even put up a notice outside saying they have every right to be there,” TMZ reports.
The notice reads in part, “This is NOT a ‘residential building’ within the meaning of section 144, Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 because it was NOT designed or adapted, before the time of our entry, for use as a place to live.”
The notice goes on to say that someone is residing in the building at all times. Any attempt of removal or threat of violence will be met with legal action.

While the situation is concerning, the restaurant wasn’t currently operating at the time of the takeover. Apparently, Gordon Ramsay had been trying to get off the lease for quite some time, leaving the commercial property relatively empty.
TMZ writes that Gordon Ramsay hasn’t said anything about the situation himself as of yet.
What Happens Next For The Celebrity Chef?
If Gordon Ramsay has a plan to deal with the squatters, he hasn’t said much yet. Since he only holds the lease and doesn’t own the building, the commercial property owners may be dealing with the situation.
For the time being, the MasterChef star has enough on his plate to keep him busy. He still has plenty of other restaurants to run, kitchens to manage, and young children at home. He and his wife just welcomed another baby in November 2023.
If Ramsay decides to do anything about the situation, outlets will likely share in time.
