Tori Spelling is sharing the shocking details that led to her divorce from Dean McDermott. The two had been married for nearly two decades but they had very rocky times. So, what was the final nail in the coffin for the actress and author? Keep reading for more information on the situation.

It looked like Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott would part ways many times during their marriage. He had cheated on her in 2013, seven years after they tied the knot. This was devastating and was documented in one of their reality shows. She wanted to show what her life was really like and how they could make it through anything. This was Tori’s second marriage as she met Dean when they were both married at the time. However, they could not deny their feelings and left their respective partners.
The two went on to have five children together but had a very interesting relationship. They were often apart or sleeping in separate rooms. In the summer of 2023, Dean posted that the couple had decided to split up. Within hours, that posting came down but Tori ended up moving out of their home due to a severe mold issue. She bounced from a motel to an RV and just recently got a lavish rental home. During this time, Dean’s addiction struggles came out and he started seeing someone new.
Tori recently filed for divorce but what was the culprit? It would seem that his addiction would have been the final straw but was there more? According to People, Tori Spelling spilled the tea on her new MisSPELLING podcast. The couple had been fighting, spewing insults at one another when he threw a nasty dig at his wife. This jab was so bad, she smashed a baked potato she had been cooking and added: “This guttural scream came out of me. It was beast-like. It wasn’t pretty at all.” She proceeded to lock herself in her bedroom but he was banging to get through.
Dean Finds A Way
Though Tori Spelling locked herself in her room as they had separate bedrooms, per Dean McDermott, she forgot one entrance.
“He came around the side because I hadn’t thought about that, and I hadn’t locked those doors. So he came in and he was very, very upset. And he said, ‘I want a divorce. This is over.’ And I said, ‘Okay. Great. Okay.’ ”
That was what spawned Dean’s social media posting about the end of their marriage which Tori had no idea about. Then, their daughter, Stella saw it and asked her what was going on. In a twist, Tori was so happy that it was out there and the marriage was over:
“I’m not kidding you guys, I felt like this giant rock had been lifted off my chest. I could breathe deeply, and I was like, ‘Oh my God. He said it, so now I’m free.’ Like, ‘Everything has started, and this, I couldn’t do it. And he did it, and now I can move on. He’s put it out there, Let’s go. Yes. I needed this.’ You know? Like, I couldn’t do it myself.”
Apparently, Dean had threatened divorce in the past but nothing ever came of it. Now, they could both move on with their own lives and have. Though it was not easy that first night to try to explain to the children that this needed to happen, they did what they needed to do.
