Patrick Mahomes’ Dad Facing Possible Long Jail Term For DWI
Patrick Mahomes’ dad is facing some possible hard times after a February arrest. Pat Mahomes Sr. went to court on April 3 and learned Texas prosecutors are charging him with a felony DWI. These charges could come with a very long sentence if found guilty and the judge passes down the maximum penalty.
Here is a look at Mahomes’ court case and the length of time he could face behind bars because of it.
Patrick Mahomes’ Dad Charged with Felony DWI
Pat Mahomes Sr. was pulled over in Tyler, Texas, on February 3 and arrested for DWI. The incident happened when police said he reportedly had an open can of Coors beer in his vehicle. According to the original police reports, Mahomes admitted that he had a few beers at the bar before driving his vehicle (via TMZ).
Mahomes was released the same day he was arrested after a $10,000 bail. However, the problem is that this isn’t the first time that Pat has been arrested – for these exact same charges (via Us Weekly). Pat Mahomes Sr. had been arrested five times for driving while intoxicated. He was arrested in March 2012 and then again in September 2013. He was arrested in April 2018 and again in November 2018.
In March 2019, he was arrested again. This time he was put in jail for less than a month on a 40-day sentence. He completed this on a work release program. Since he has been arrested five times before and keeps breaking the same law, this time it might end up bad for the elder Mahomes. Since it is his sixth arrest, the charges are a felony.
Patrick Mahomes’ Dad Facing Possible 10-Year Prison Sentence
Past Mahomes Sr. has more to lose this time since it was his sixth arrest for driving while intoxicated. Since Texas prosecutors indicted him for a felony DWI, those charges could lead to up to a 10-year prison sentence and a $10,000 fine. Pat Mahomes Sr. is 53, so he woulc behind bars until he is in his 60s if found guilty.
When asked about his dad’s arrest in February, Patrick Mahomes said “I don’t really want to get into it too much, but he’s doing good for whatever the situation is. It’s a family matter. So I’ll just keep it to the family. And, that’s all I really have to say at this point.” It was a tough time for the younger Mahomes to get these questions since he was preparing for Super Bowl LVIII. His Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers.
Pat Sr. was at the Super Bowl when his son won. However, he kept a low profile and wasn’t filmed in attendance. However, it is unclear what his son has to say about his dad with this possible jail sentence.
