What Was Chris McNally’s Reaction To Lucas And Elizabeth’s WCTH Broken Engagement Story?

When Elizabeth broke off her engagement to Lucas, many Hearties were upset. But, what about Chris McNally who portrays the new Governor? What did he think about this surprising turn of events? Chris spoke to Diedre Behar of ET about WCTH Season 11. This includes his initial reaction to the broken engagement. What did he think?

It was certainly disappointing…we’ve been thinking, you know, for a while now that these characters are going to go together. So, When a discussion was had it was like ‘Hey, this may not be the case. Things might shift drastically.’ I had a moment of ‘What?’ I thought we’d already gone through all of this, which I’m sure is what fan reactions might be.

Then, he added, “But there was one last twist.” He went on to say that he does love working on the show and everyone who is involved with this show. Whether he is “playing Elizabeth’s love interest or not, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. Just that I’m happy either way.”

Basically, Chris was really surprised that new showrunner Lindsay Sturman and her team of writers were going to undo what happened the past few seasons and break off this couple. This surprise was understandable, as the love triangle was causing a lot of friction with Hearties. However, in the end, Chris likes his job and is grateful to have it. What happens with his character, although surprising, is fine with him.

But, the key is that this was a surprise. This was not the initial plan for Season 10. Once that change was decided upon, they went forward and split up the newly-engaged couple.

  1. While my heart goes out to all the distraught Lucas fans who are now experiencing what Nathan fans have already endured, I must confess when Elizabeth broke off the engagement I cheered because I felt she was finally making the right decision for her life.

  2. I was shocked, I was mad, I was disappointed. We had gotten through the love triangle and Elizabeth had made her decision. She had shared her love of Lucas with her son and now this. I am not so much a fan of WCTH now as I was. Why did they change the skem of things? Lucas and Elizabeth and “little buddy” were making life happen and all was well. Then politics got in the way. Sure Elizabeth had to stay in Hope Valley, so why did they not write it that Lucas caved in and his love for Elizabeth rang out. Oh no, now we have Nathan still in Hope Valley with Elizabeth. Why did the writers have to go and change things?
