Fans Livid As Nickelodeon Cancels Popular Show

Nickelodeon grew a rep for quietly canceling shows, but this week, they gave advance notice that a popular show will end after 46 episodes. Sometimes, viewers call for shows to get canceled. For example, in 2020 lots of voices rose on Twitter (Now X)  and called for the cancelation of Paw Patrol. With the latest cancellation, fans seem a bit unhappy.

Nickelodeon Cancellations And Renewals

Often, shows will just fade quietly away. And other times, new content arrives. Whether it’s the ratings, or just random is sometimes confusing. Instead of canceling Paw Patrol, it ran on and in 2022, another spinoff came that focused on Rubble. Then in 2023, more renewals came with shows like Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Big Nate, and others.

2024 brought less happy news about Nickelodeon. Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV revealed that a toxic workplace existed there for two decades. Celebrities like Jamie Spears and Ariana Grande spoke up. In the Investigation Discovery series, Drake Bell spoke about his alleged abuse by Brian Peck. However, it didn’t take down the production company, and things seemed to improve after Dan Schneider departed. Naturally, shows go up and down based on public opinion.

Canceled Show Ended March 20

Deadline reported the cancellation of That Girl Lay Lay, just days before the end of Season 2. Say goodbye to Gabrielle Nevaeh Green in the role of Sadie and her AI character, Lay Lay. A statement didn’t say why they canned the show, but some fans see a trend. When the news made it to Reddit, lots of discussion about Nickelodeon shows took place.

Nickelodeon fans who responded in the comments sounded a bit down. Here’s what some of them said:

  • Erin & Aaron was cancelled (sic) after 13 episodes back in June of last year so as of now it leaves 2 Live Action shows. The Really Loud House & Young Dylan (not sure if they [have] been renewed yet, but i wouldn’t be surprise[d] if nickelodeon pulls the plug.
  • The last live action Scripted…show to last more than 4 seasons is Herny Danger (5 Seasons, 121 Episodes). Before that it was ICarly (6 Seasons 97 Episodes).
  • Young Dylan will likely not be getting a fifth season and no one is talking about transformers so it’s really down to Rock Paper Scissors monster high and the spongebob loud house shows.
  • Nickelodeon already cleaned house at one of those shows which makes me think they’re pulling all of their live-action shows due to QOS. Rightfully so. No one trusts them anymore.
